FS Engineering is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. We are looking for someone who enjoys designing building systems, solving practical problems, and working collaboratively with clients and fellow engineers. Our projects serve K–12, higher education, healthcare, multifamily, and commercial office clients.
This role combines hands-on HVAC design with project leadership and mentoring. The ideal candidate brings strong technical judgment, attention to detail, and an understanding of how mechanical systems coordinate with other building disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Lead HVAC design from initial planning and existing conditions assessments through construction documents and construction support.
- Develop system concepts, evaluate alternatives, and select equipment appropriate to project needs and budgets.
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations, ventilation calculations, and ductwork and piping sizing.
- Design heating, cooling, ventilation, and exhaust systems, including equipment layouts, distribution systems, and controls sequences.
- Prepare and review drawings, specifications, and engineering calculations using Revit and engineering design software.
- Coordinate with architects, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineers, equipment vendors, and contractors.
- Apply relevant building, mechanical, and energy codes and industry standards.
- Review contractor submittals and shop drawings for conformance with design intent; respond to RFIs and conduct construction site observations.
- Delegate work to junior engineers, provide clear direction, and review their work throughout the design process.
- Manage mechanical design scope, schedules, and budgets across multiple projects.
- Contribute to department standards, quality reviews, and staff development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 9+ years of HVAC design experience within the building industry.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Experience developing coordinated HVAC construction documents.
- Proficiency in Revit and familiarity with HVAC load calculation and equipment selection software.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, applicable codes, and ASHRAE standards.
- Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and guide junior engineers.
