We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Distribution Design Engineer to join our team at K&A Power Group in Syracuse, NY or Boston, MA. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. Role Expectations
- Design electric distribution projects including overhead and underground systems, service upgrades, line extensions, and system improvement initiatives.
- Develop construction work packages, engineering drawings, and project documentation in compliance with National Grid standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct field visits and site assessments to gather design information and validate project requirements.
- Prepare cost estimates, material specifications, and project schedules.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders, municipalities, contractors, and customers throughout project lifecycles.
- Support permitting, easement, and right-of-way activities as needed.
- Ensure designs meet safety, reliability, environmental, and operational standards.
- Utilize GIS, CAD, and utility design software to prepare and maintain accurate engineering records.
- Assist with storm restoration efforts and emergency response activities when required.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting established deadlines and budget expectations.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline; equivalent utility experience may be considered.
- Experience in electric utility distribution design, utility operations, engineering support, or related infrastructure projects.
- Understanding of overhead and underground electric distribution systems.
- Knowledge of utility construction practices, industry standards, and applicable safety regulations.
- Experience with GIS, CAD, AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar design tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel locally to project sites.
