Digital Design Engineer – FPGA / Avionics
Onsite Position - South Miami, FL Area
We’re looking for a Digital Design Engineer to develop complex programmable logic and digital electronic systems for advanced avionics applications. This is a design-focused engineering role. We’re looking for someone who has hands-on experience developing FPGA/ASIC-based hardware using VHDL, taking designs through simulation, synthesis, implementation, timing analysis, verification, and ultimately DO-254 certification.
What You’ll Do
- Design and develop FPGA and programmable logic for avionics electronic systems
- Develop and implement digital designs using VHDL / RTL
- Work with FPGAs, ASICs, microprocessors, and microcontrollers
- Take designs from initial requirements through simulation, synthesis, implementation, and verification
- Develop test benches and perform functional simulation of digital designs
- Perform synthesis, place-and-route, and timing analysis
- Debug and optimize designs for functionality, performance, reliability, and timing
- Support FPGA/hardware integration and bring-up activities
- Work closely with hardware, software, and systems engineers to integrate designs into larger avionics architectures
- Develop engineering documentation and maintain requirements traceability throughout the design lifecycle
- Support DO-254 development and certification activities
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline
- Strong hands-on experience with FPGA / programmable logic design
- Professional experience developing digital designs using VHDL
- Experience with RTL design, simulation, synthesis, and timing analysis
- Experience working with FPGAs and/or ASICs
- Understanding of digital circuit and embedded hardware design
- Experience with FPGA development tools such as Xilinx Vivado, Intel/Altera Quartus, or similar EDA platforms
- Experience developing and executing test benches
- Ability to work from hardware/system requirements through completed and verified designs
Highly Preferred
- Hands-on DO-254 experience
- Previous avionics or aerospace electronics experience
- Experience taking FPGA designs through a formal certification lifecycle
- Requirements capture, verification, and traceability experience
- Experience integrating FPGA designs with microprocessors, microcontrollers, and embedded software
- Experience with hardware debugging and lab test equipment
The profile we’re really looking for: an engineer who has actually designed programmable logic, not someone whose experience is primarily FPGA testing or verification. You should be comfortable owning the design in VHDL, working through synthesis and timing, and supporting the hardware through integration and certification.
