Fire Protection Designer

A specialist contractor operating within the fire protection and critical infrastructure sector is looking to appoint two Design Engineers due to continued growth and an increasing pipeline of data centre projects.

There are two positions available:

• 1x Electrical Design Engineer
• 1x Mechanical Design Engineer

Both positions require experience working with fire detection and fire suppression systems, ideally within data centre or other mission-critical environments.

The Role

• The successful engineers will be responsible for producing and developing technical designs for specialist fire protection systems across data centre and critical infrastructure projects.
• You will work closely with project managers, engineers, clients, consultants and installation teams to ensure designs are technically compliant, buildable and delivered in line with project requirements.

Responsibilities will include:

• Producing detailed mechanical or electrical designs
• Designing fire detection and fire suppression systems
• Reviewing project specifications, drawings and technical requirements
• Developing designs from concept through to detailed design and construction
• Producing technical drawings, schematics and design documentation
• Liaising with clients, consultants and project teams
• Working alongside installation and commissioning teams
• Carrying out design reviews and ensuring compliance with relevant standards
• Supporting technical queries and resolving design issues during delivery
• Reviewing supplier and manufacturer information
• Assisting with design changes, variations and project requirements
• Supporting testing, commissioning and handover where required

Electrical Design Engineer

The electrical-focused position would suit someone with experience designing electrical elements of fire protection systems, particularly:

• Fire detection and alarm systems
• Addressable fire alarm systems
• Cause and effect
• Detection systems
• Interfaces and controls
• Fire alarm schematics
• Electrical containment and associated infrastructure
• Integration with other building and life-safety systems
• Experience working on data centre projects is highly desirable.

Mechanical Design Engineer

The mechanical-focused position would suit someone with experience designing fire suppression systems, including:

• Gas suppression systems
• Clean agent systems
• Fire suppression pipework
• Cylinder systems
• Pressure relief systems
• Hydraulic calculations
• Pipe sizing and layouts
• Mechanical plant and equipment
• System schematics and technical drawings

Experience within data centres, server rooms or other critical environments would be highly advantageous.
