Position Overview
Established engineering firm in Bergen County, NJ is seeking an HVAC Project Engineer with strong HVAC design experience to join its team. This individual will be responsible for the design and development of mechanical building systems and will work closely with clients, architects, and multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the project lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation in HVAC system design, heating and cooling load calculations, and equipment selection, along with proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
Responsibilities
- Design HVAC systems and associated mechanical infrastructure, including ductwork, chilled water piping, steam piping, and related building systems.
- Perform HVAC system design calculations, including heating and cooling load calculations, equipment sizing, and COMcheck energy compliance calculations.
- Evaluate and select mechanical equipment for building systems, including cooling towers, chillers, boilers, air handling units (AHUs), and other HVAC components.
- Incorporate sustainable and energy-efficient design principles into mechanical system designs.
- Develop detailed contract drawings and construction documents that accurately represent the designed mechanical systems.
- Prepare engineering reports, technical documentation, project specifications, and equipment schedules.
- Coordinate mechanical designs with architects and engineers across other disciplines to ensure proper integration of building systems.
- Participate in project and client meetings to identify project requirements, understand client needs, and discuss technical and design considerations.
- Communicate with clients throughout the design process and assist in resolving project-related technical issues.
- Manage smaller projects, specific project work areas, or assigned technical responsibilities while ensuring work meets established quality standards.
- Monitor the quality and accuracy of engineering work and support project schedules and deliverables.
- Serve as a technical and client liaison, maintaining effective communication between project teams, clients, architects, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline required.
- Minimum of 4+ years of professional HVAC design experience.
- Demonstrated ability to independently design HVAC systems and contribute to projects from initial design through construction documentation.
- Strong experience performing heating and cooling load calculations required.
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD required.
- Experience with TRACE 300 HVAC design and load calculation software.
- Strong understanding of HVAC system design, mechanical equipment selection, ductwork, piping systems, and building mechanical systems.
- Working knowledge of applicable building, mechanical, and energy codes.
- Strong technical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with clients, architects, engineers, and other project stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
