Job Overview: An Engineer works with more experienced engineers to design building Plumbing/Fire Protection systems.
Responsibilities And Duties
- System Design: CalculationsLearns system design and calculations including:
- Heating and cooling load calculations
- Pipe and duct pressure calculations
- Psychrometric calculations
- Ventilation air calculations
- System Design: Drafting
- Works with supervisor to layout ductwork, piping, and equipment utilizing Revit 3D software.
- Produces drawing sets, including but not limited to, drawing notes, details, and single line riser diagrams
- Selects equipment, such as fans, diffusers, terminal boxes, fan coil units, and pumps.
- Gains understanding of different mechanical system types.
- Construction Administration
- Conducts preliminary review of submittals and RFIs.
- Sustainability
- Gains experience working on sustainable projects.
- Gains familiarity with various certifications (LEED, etc.).
- Design Coordination
- Collaborates with fellow mechanical engineers within their studio.
- Asks meaningful questions.
- Client Interface
- Presents self in a professional manner when interacting with external stakeholders.
- Code/References
- Familiarizes themselves with international and local building codes.
- Learns energy codes.
- Gains knowledge of ASHRAE handbooks and calculations.
- Additional tasks as requested.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, fire protection or architectural engineering, or similar field.
- Has EIT certification or is working towards it.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with Autodesk Revit a plus.
- Ability to communicate their technical knowledge.
- A team player. Proven ability to work collaboratively both internally and externally to accomplish goals.
- Has a strong attention to detail and is committed to providing quality work.
- Exhibits drive for continuous improvement. Ability to identify needs and initiate creative approaches to developing programs/processes to address these needs.
