Mechanical Design in Highly Complex Space Projects


Within our Space business unit, we support the development and assembly of satellites and space probes according to the proven AIT process (Assembly, Integration, Test). We follow standardized procedures for the qualification and integration of individual system components into complete systems.


In this role, you will be responsible for the mechanical design and 3D modeling of demanding space components – from individual parts to complex assemblies. You will develop precise solutions for structural, radar-related and optical components while meeting the highest quality and safety requirements. You will ensure compliance with design standards, interface requirements and integration specifications, making a key contribution to the successful realization of modern satellite and space systems.


Join our team in a permanent internal position as Mechanical Design Engineer (m/f/x) Space, based in Friedrichshafen, with the following responsibilities:


  • Design of space components, including 3D modeling and assembly development
  • Creation of detailed technical drawings and complete technical documentation for individual parts and assemblies
  • Design of radar and optical CFI components (Critical Flight Items)
  • Design and integration of machined and turned components, inserts and bolted connections within mechanical assemblies
  • Support for harness design, particularly detailed cable routing and the definition and compliance with design envelopes
  • Close collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to ensure functional requirements and interface compatibility


Profile


  • Completed degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a comparable field; alternatively, completed technical vocational training combined with relevant professional experience
  • Experience in CAD design and engineering
  • Very good knowledge of 3DEXPERIENCE / CATIA V6 R36
  • Sound knowledge of mechanical design principles, particularly in the area of manufactured components, inserts and bolted connections
  • Good understanding of radar and optical space components
  • Structured, precise and quality-oriented way of working
  • Very good English language skills
