- Create and review electrical designs for battery energy storage (BESS) and/or wind projects, including one-line diagrams, grounding, protection schemes, low voltage auxiliary systems, equipment elevations, bill of materials, panel board details, cable installation details, and other drawings associated with the design for utility-scale renewable systems (100-500MW+).
- Design projects on multi-discipline teams of 2-4 people, including a design engineer (focused on the layout, details, etc.), a system studies engineer, with additional support from CAD technicians.
- Perform electrical studies such as cable ampacity, energy loss, short-circuit analysis, lightning risk analysis, protection coordination, and grounding analysis.
- Select and specify key electrical components such as transformers, switchgear, inverters, relays, and batteries.
- Work closely with internal project teams, external contractors, and equipment vendors to deliver complete and buildable designs.
- Assist with utility interconnection applications and ensure compliance with applicable codes (NEC, IEEE, NESC, NFPA).
- Provide technical guidance during construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting to ensure the design intent is achieved in the field.
- Keep up to date with evolving wind and BESS technologies, codes, and standards to incorporate best practices into designs.
- Additional duties may include tasks beyond what is listed, such as special projects, assisting colleagues, or new initiatives. A willingness to adapt to changing priorities and support team efforts enhances collaboration and growth opportunities.
- Bachelor’s in electrical engineering required, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in power systems, with detailed design of Renewable BESS and/or wind projects strongly preferred.
- Experience with engineering software such as ETAP, Easypower, CYME (or CYM CAD), AutoCAD, REVIT, CDEGS, or similar is a plus.
- Knowledge of BESS and/or wind systems, general power system/utility knowledge, NEC and NESC requirements, and construction practices is strongly preferred.
- Ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies is a must.
- Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
- Must be a self-starter and willing to identify improvements and implement them, utilizing support from others.
- Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
- Ability to maintain project schedule and achieve target due dates.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, clients, and external agencies.
- Strong analytical capabilities, self-motivation, and the ability to effectively manage priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing demands simultaneously.
- Ability to work in a hybrid schedule: 3 days in the office, 2 days from home.
- Must possess strong verbal and written English communication skills (CEFR level B2–C1). You should be comfortable articulating complex ideas and collaborating effectively within a global professional environment.
- Must have authorization to work legally in Costa Rica for any employer.
