TXT PACE is looking for a Space Avionics Architect to join its team and contribute to technologically advanced projects in the Space sector.

The successful candidate will play a key role in defining the end-to-end avionics architecture, working on complex systems and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams throughout the different design and development phases.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading the definition of the end-to-end avionics architecture, including system decomposition and the interface strategy between the On Board Computer (OBC) and payload;
  • Defining architectures for payloads with high-speed networking, backplanes, and system boot and recovery concepts;
  • Designing robust Failure Detection, Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) solutions, including safe-mode behaviours and watchdog strategies;
  • Documenting and maintaining the technical baseline, including system architectures and the related design rationale;
  • Conducting engineering analyses related to radiation tolerance, EMI/EMC, signal integrity and power distribution;
  • Collaborating cross-functionally with networking, GNC, RF, software, FPGA and mechanical teams.

Technical Skills / IT Skills

  • Spacecraft Avionics Architecture and end-to-end avionics architectures;
  • Distributed architectures based on processors, FPGA/SoC and high-speed interfaces;
  • High-Speed Networking, payload networking and backplanes;
  • Failure Detection, Isolation and Recovery (FDIR);
  • Safe mode, watchdog, system boot and recovery strategies;
  • ATOP – Automated Test and Operations Procedure;
  • MOIS – Mission Operations Information Systems;
  • EGS-CC Operations Procedure Language (EAPL);
  • ECSS PUS – Packet Utilisation Standard;
  • ECSS-E-ST-70 Guidance;
  • Analysis of radiation tolerance, EMI/EMC, signal integrity and power distribution;
  • Knowledge of complex embedded hardware systems and high-speed digital electronics.

Behavioural Skills

  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams;
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with specialists from different technical domains;
  • Ability to manage and coordinate complex technical activities;
  • Structured approach to defining and documenting architectural solutions;
  • Ability to work effectively in an international environment.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or an equivalent qualification;
  • Several years of experience in spacecraft avionics, high-speed digital electronics or complex embedded hardware systems;
  • Proven experience in designing distributed architectures combining processors, FPGA/SoC and high-speed interfaces;
  • Excellent written and spoken English;
  • Written and spoken German is considered a plus.

Employment Terms

  • Contract type: Permanent German employment contract;
  • Gross annual salary: €65,000 – €80,000;
  • Full-time;
  • Hybrid working model (based in Germany);
  • The final employment terms and classification will be defined during the selection process based on the selected candidate’s profile and in accordance with IG Metall.
