About Hyperlayer

Hyperlayer is the intelligent banking platform built for the agentic economy: the financial control layer that sits above banks’ existing cores, enabling next-generation Smart Accounts, without ripping anything out. From a single integration, we give financial institutions a secure rules and orchestration engine that lets them design, launch and scale hyper-personalised products in weeks while preserving stability, compliance and control. And there’s nothing like us anywhere in the world.

Hyperlayer works with Tier 1 and Tier 2 FIs across the UK, US, EMEA and Hong Kong, with an award-winning UK consumer app (HyperJar) sitting in the group. We’re creating the fintech category that every bank in the world needs: programmable, governed, agent-ready accounts. Your job is to make sure our audiences know that.

About The Role

  • This is an office-based role, with regular in-person collaboration in the office.
  • As a small, agile company, we thrive on collaboration, innovation, and accountability. We’re now looking for a Solution Architect to help shape and scale our technology landscape as we enter our next phase of growth.
  • You’ll play a pivotal role in designing and delivering robust, scalable, and secure payment and banking-infrastructure solutions. You’ll work closely with both internal teams and external clients, translating business needs into end-to-end technical designs that balance innovation, practicality, and regulatory compliance.
  • This role suits someone who combines deep technical expertise with strong client-facing skills — you’ll enjoy collaborating with customers to understand their requirements, designing solutions that meet their goals, and guiding them through technical delivery. We’re looking for a minimum of 8 years’ experience, ideally split across software engineering and architecture.

What You'll Do

  • Design scalable, secure, and compliant payment and banking solutions spanning card processing, payments, and open banking.
  • Engage directly with external clients to understand their business and technical needs, translate them into feasible architectures, and present solution proposals.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and compliance teams to align business goals with technical solutions.
  • Lead client solution workshops, technical discovery sessions, and architecture reviews.
  • Evaluate and solution for third-party APIs and payment gateways, ensuring interoperability, resilience, and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain architecture documentation, diagrams, and standards (e.g., APIs, microservices, cloud infrastructure).
  • Provide technical leadership through delivery, ensuring solutions follow architectural principles and industry best practice.
  • Support pre-sales activity, including RFP responses and technical input on client proposals.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Solution Architect or Software Architect, ideally in fintech or payments, with a strong understanding of payments infrastructure (card acquiring, open banking, faster payments, settlement, reconciliation).
  • Experience working directly with external clients or partners in a technical or pre-sales capacity.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-native or cloud-agnostic architectures (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and expertise in API design, microservices, and event-driven systems.
  • Familiarity with security and compliance requirements in financial services (e.g., encryption, PCI-DSS).
  • Strong communication and presentation skills — able to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Comfort working in agile, DevOps, or product-driven environments.
  • Confidence using AI tools (such as Claude or GitHub Copilot) as part of your daily workflow — for example, drafting architecture documentation, accelerating technical discovery, or supporting RFP and proposal writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in a start-up or scale-up fintech.
  • Exposure to ISO 20022, Open Banking APIs, or card scheme integrations.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Background in software engineering (e.g., Java, Golang, Kotlin, Node.js, Python).
  • Experience supporting sales or business development teams with technical input.

Using AI at Hyperlayer

Hyperlayer is hyper-focused on making the most of AI across every workstream, and Solution Architecture is no exception. You’ll be expected to use tools like Claude as part of how you work day to day — for example, drafting and refining architecture documentation and diagrams, accelerating technical discovery ahead of client workshops, or speeding up RFP and proposal responses. We see this as an opportunity to spend more time on design judgement and client conversations, not less.
