Presales Solutions Architect

At Alam Capital Bhd, we are looking for an experienced Applications Migration & Modernization Solutions Architect cum Presales professional to lead technical discovery, target-state architecture, cloud migration strategy and customer solutioning for enterprise transformation programs. The role combines deep application architecture knowledge with strong Java skills, cloud modernization experience and customer-facing presales capability.

CLOUD: AWS / Azure / GCP

Application Migration & Modernization

• Assess enterprise application portfolios, including legacy and Java-based applications, for cloud migration and modernization readiness.

• Perform application discovery, dependency mapping, architecture review, technology assessment and migration complexity analysis.

• Recommend the right migration strategy using rehost, re-platform, refactor, rearchitect, repurchase, retire or retain approaches.

• Design modernization paths for monolithic, legacy and tightly coupled applications using microservices, APIs, containers and cloud-native patterns.

• Define migration waves, application groupings, sequencing, cutover approach and modernization roadmaps.

• Ensure target designs address scalability, resilience, security, performance, observability and cost optimization.

Java & Enterprise Application Architecture

• Strong architectural understanding of Java / J2EE enterprise applications, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices, Hibernate / JPA and Maven / Gradle.

• Review source-level and runtime dependencies, integration patterns, middleware dependencies and application-server constraints.

• Modernize legacy Java applications into Spring Boot, microservices, containerized or cloud-native architectures.

• Work with enterprise application servers such as WebLogic, WebSphere, JBoss or Tomcat and identify appropriate modernization paths.

• Apply suitable design patterns for distributed systems, API-led integration, resiliency and service decomposition.

Cloud Solution Architecture

• Design migration and modernization solutions on AWS, Microsoft Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform.

• Architect solutions across virtual machines, containers, Kubernetes, serverless services, managed databases, API management, load balancing, IAM, networking, monitoring and observability.

• Design secure, highly available and scalable target-state architectures for enterprise workloads.

• Support hybrid-cloud and multi-cloud strategies where required, including connectivity, landing zones and governance considerations.

• Apply Infrastructure as Code and automation principles to improve repeatability and migration velocity.

Pre-sales and customer engagement

• Lead technical discovery workshops with customers to understand business objectives, current-state architecture, application estate, constraints and migration priorities.

• Translate customer requirements into end-to-end technical solutions that are practical, secure and commercially viable.

• Prepare solution architecture, high-level design, migration strategy, modernization roadmap, Scope of Work, effort estimates, resource plans, assumptions, dependencies and delivery timelines.

• Respond to RFI, RFP and RFQ requirements and contribute to technical, commercial and delivery sections of proposals.

• Present solution recommendations to CIOs, CTOs, Enterprise Architects, Application Heads and other technical and business stakeholders.

• Conduct architecture walkthroughs, technical demonstrations, Proof of Concept engagements and solution defence sessions.

• Partner with sales, delivery, engineering, cloud and commercial teams to shape winning migration and modernization proposals.

Migration Assessment Capability

• The successful candidate should be able to assess the complete application landscape across:
• Application architecture and code dependencies
• Operating systems and runtime environments
• Middleware and application servers
• Databases and data dependencies APIs, messaging and external integrations
• Batch processes and schedulers
• Security and identity dependencies
• Network and connectivity requirements
• Performance and capacity requirements
• High availability and disaster recovery
• Compliance and data residency
• Licensing and technology lifecycle risks

DevOps, Automation & Platform Knowledge:

• Hands-on understanding of CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.

• Working knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes / OpenShift, Terraform, Ansible and Infrastructure as Code practices.

• Ability to design automated deployment and migration pipelines for modernized applications.

• Working knowledge of enterprise databases including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL and DB2.

• Understanding of messaging and integration technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, IBM MQ, API gateways or enterprise integration platforms.

Security & Governance

• Incorporate identity and access management, encryption, network segmentation, application security and secrets management into solution designs.

• Understand cloud landing zones, enterprise governance, policy controls, audit requirements and data residency considerations.

• Apply DevSecOps principles and security-by-design throughout migration and modernization planning.
