Solutions Engineering Manager – EV Charging


We are a fast-growing Irish electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure company expanding our charging network across Ireland and the UK. As Solutions Engineering Manager you will play a critical role in supporting revenue growth by bridging technical EV solutions and customer needs. This role leads the pre-sales function, working closely with sales, engineering, and product teams to design compelling, technically sound EV charging and energy solutions for customers.

Pre-sales sits between initial opportunity and contract close, ensuring solutions are feasible, differentiated, and aligned to customer requirements.


Key Responsibilities


1. Customer Engagement & Solution Design

  • Engage with fleet operators, councils, developers, and commercial clients to understand EV charging requirements.
  • Translate customer needs into tailored EV infrastructure solutions (hardware, software, grid, installation).
  • Conduct technical discovery sessions and site feasibility assessments
  • Design end-to-end solutions including:
  • Charger selection (AC/DC, ultra-fast)
  • Grid connection & power requirements
  • Energy management and backend systems


2. Bid & Tender Leadership

  • Own the technical response for RFPs / tenders (e.g. public sector EVIF, council frameworks)
  • Develop:
  • Technical proposals
  • Architecture diagrams
  • Pricing inputs with commercial team
  • Coordinate inputs from internal stakeholders (engineering, delivery, finance)


3. Sales Enablement & Deal Support

  • Support sales in qualifying opportunities and shaping win strategies
  • Deliver customer presentations, demos, and proofs of concept
  • Articulate value proposition: ROI, utilisation, funding optimisation
  • Act as the technical expert during negotiations


4. Stakeholder & Ecosystem Coordination

Work with:

  • OEMs (chargers, hardware)
  • ESB as required
  • EPC contractors as required
  • Software and roaming partners as required
  • Align internal teams: product, delivery, operations and finance


5. Product & Offering Development

  • Feed customer insights into product roadmap
  • Help shape:
  • Pricing structures
  • Bundled solutions (hardware + software + energy)


6. Pre-Sales Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop a team of pre-sales engineers / solution specialists
  • Define processes, tools, and standard solution templates
  • Set KPIs aligned to win rate, pipeline support, and deal velocity
  • Support complex or strategic bids (enterprise / public sector)



Key Skills & Experience


Technical

Strong understanding of:

  • EV charging infrastructure (AC/DC systems, ultra-fast charging)
  • Grid, power, and electrical systems
  • Charging management systems (CMS) & software platforms
  • Experience designing EV or energy infrastructure solutions


Commercial & Strategic

Strong understanding of:

  • Commercial models (CapEx, concession, revenue share)
  • Public sector tenders & frameworks
  • Fleet electrification strategies


Core Capabilities

  • Solution architecture and problem solving
  • Stakeholder management
  • Presentation & storytelling (technical → commercial translation)
  • Bid / proposal writing


Experience

  • 5–10+ years in EV, energy, infrastructure, or technical pre-sales
  • Background in engineering, energy systems, or related field
  • Experience with large-scale EV deployments or tenders preferred
  • Full clean driving licence
