The Role:

The Smart Buildings Programme Solution Architect is responsible for defining, designing and governing end-to-end technology solutions that enable intelligent, connected, sustainable and data-driven buildings. The role bridges business objectives, operational technology (OT), information technology (IT), IoT platforms, cloud services and building management systems to deliver integrated smart-building capabilities across a portfolio of projects or programmes.

The architect will work closely with business stakeholders, engineering teams, suppliers and delivery partners to develop scalable and secure solutions that improve occupant experience, energy efficiency, operational performance, building safety and sustainability outcomes.

Area of Responsibility

Solution Architecture and Design

Define target and transition architectures for Smart Building programmes.

Create high-level and detailed solution architectures across building systems, applications, data and infrastructure.

Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture principles, technology standards and business objectives.

Produce architecture artefacts, design decisions, roadmaps and solution blueprints.

Smart Building Technology Integration

Design integration strategies across Building Management Systems (BMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), IoT platforms, digital twins, smart sensors, CCTV, security, access control, workplace management, HVAC and lighting controls.

Define interoperability approaches using appropriate open standards, APIs and integration patterns.

Ensure solutions address the boundary between enterprise IT and building operational technology.

Data and Digital Platforms

Design data architectures for real-time building monitoring, analytics and decision support.

Define approaches for data acquisition, storage, quality, governance, retention and visualisation.

Enable digital-twin and predictive-maintenance capabilities where appropriate.

Define cloud, edge and connectivity architecture suited to building operations.

Knowledge / Experience

Significant experience in solution architecture, systems engineering or enterprise technology roles.

Proven experience delivering Smart Buildings, Smart Infrastructure, Smart Campus or Digital Building programmes.

Experience integrating operational technology and enterprise IT environments.

Experience designing enterprise-scale solutions using cloud, data, integration and IoT technologies.

Strong understanding of digital transformation and complex programme delivery.

Experience working within Agile, SAFe, Waterfall or hybrid delivery models.

Experience managing multiple technology vendors and delivery partners.

Ability to produce conceptual, logical and physical architecture views and communicate them to technical and non-technical audiences.
