Responsibilities

Define and drive the long-term backend architecture strategy aligned with business goals- Oversee system design across multiple services, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security- Establish architectural standards, design patterns, and engineering best practices across the organization- Lead technical due diligence, risk assessment, and trade-off analysis for major engineering decisions- Drive platform modernization initiatives and technical debt reduction- Champion observability, performance engineering, and operational excellence- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of backend architects and senior engineers- Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning- Drive hiring and onboarding for the backend architecture team- Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and knowledge sharing- Coordinate cross-team technical initiatives and resolve architectural conflicts

Requirements

10+ years of backend engineering experience, including 3+ years in a lead or principal role- Proven track record designing and scaling distributed systems in production- Strong experience leading and mentoring engineering teams- Deep expertise in backend languages (Java, Go, Python, Node.js, or similar)-Extensive knowledge of distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architecture, and API design- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS / GCP / Azure) and modern infrastructure practices- Strong understanding of database design, caching, messaging, and high-concurrency systems- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information.
