The Network Specialist III position reports to the Health and Human Services Information Technology Manager in Region 11 (South Texas). This position works under limited supervision with latitude for initiative and independent judgment. It serves as a key central point of contact for resolving escalated deskside and network related issues. This position works closely with other technical support teams performing complex and advanced computer systems analysis work, evaluating and optimizing computer systems for effective performance, supporting local and wide area networks, and performing some project management duties. This position provides technical oversight of unit operations in the Corpus Christi and Laredo area. This includes providing technical assistance to deskside staff, contracted technicians, and vendors. This position can perform research of technological solutions, enhancements, and modifications to existing environment which have a direct impact on customer base. This position provides hardware and software support which may include servers, computers, printers, multi-function devices, mobile devices, business applications, and network-related equipment. This position is also responsible for performing desktop and network reviews including performance monitoring using agency approved tools and technology. This position may provide technical training and mentorship to other deskside staff. Travel to other work locations with overnight stay may also be required. Troubleshoot and maintain agency hardware, software, and network equipment. – Install, configure, maintain, and administer servers, network equipment, computer systems, operating systems, and agency business applications. – Perform project management duties and oversight to ensure state policy and procedures are followed through successful project completion. – Develop and submit reports, technical analysis, and email correspondence to management, peers, and customers as required. – computer hardware and software configuration and troubleshooting; operating systems and applications; computer programming and
architecture of scripting languages; to use network management, administration, and other system administration tools.
Skill in identifying and resolving hardware, software, and network related issues.
Skill in supporting local and wide area networks including associated hardware such as routers, switches, and network cabling.
Skill in desktop and network performance monitoring.
Skill in using Microsoft Windows 11, Office 365, and SharePoint.
Skill in performing project management duties including oversight, status reporting, resource allocation, and scheduling.
Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments to meet deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to provide technical training to others.
Ability to provide exceptional customer service.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships with agency staff, vendors, and contractors.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements Or Certifications
ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) Foundations preferred but not required.
A+ and Network+ certifications preferred but not required.
Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university with major course work in computer information systems, computer science, computer networking or other similar field of study is preferred but not required. Experience working in a customer oriented environment performing desktop and network support work. Experience supporting Microsoft Windows 11 and Microsoft Office 365 products. Experience performing some project management duties or leading technical teams is preferred but not required.
This position may travel approximately 30% of the time normally within regional boundaries but occasional out-of-town travel with overnight lodging may be required. Occasional overtime, weekend, and holiday work may be required. of equipment.
