Senior Systems Integration Engineer / Solution Architect

Security • OT • Building Systems • Critical Infrastructurea

  • Location: Bucharest / Ilfov, Romania
  • Working model: Office & lab based, with occasional customer-site activity
  • Romanian language: Fluent / professional level — mandatory
  • Experience in the Romanian engineering market: strongly preferred

This is NOT an IT, Cloud, SaaS, DevOps or software-development architecture role.

We are looking for a hands-on engineer who understands physical systems and can connect electronics, controls, networking, servers, software and real-world infrastructure into complete, testable and supportable solutions.

About ALFRED NET

Founded in 2004, ALFRED NET operates as a Solution Provider, Systems Integrator, Value-Added Distributor and technical consultant.

Our engineering activity spans:

  • Security & Intelligence — access control, identity, CCTV/VMS, intrusion, perimeter, biometrics, intercom, PSIM and command & control.
  • Telecommunications & Networking — LAN/WAN, industrial networks, fiber, radio/PTT, critical communications and remote connectivity.
  • Intelligent Transportation Systems — railway stations, onboard systems, PIS/PAS, tunnels, ANPR, traffic systems and command centres.
  • Smart Buildings — BMS, HVAC, controls, sensors, actuators, BACnet/Modbus and integration with security and life-safety systems.

We also develop custom integrations, reporting, middleware, APIs and technical solutions when a standard product is not enough.

Our work can cover the complete technical lifecycle:

requirement → concept → architecture → design → BoM/BoQ → lab validation → implementation → FAT/SAT → commissioning → support → lifecycle

The role

We are looking for someone who can understand a technical or operational need, connect the dots, identify the necessary technologies and turn them into a real solution.

This is not a role where the architect creates a diagram and hands the problem to somebody else.

You will be expected to design it, understand it, challenge it, build parts of it, test it, validate it and support it.

The person we are looking for naturally thinks:

  • What problem are we actually solving?
  • What information is missing?
  • Which technologies can solve it?
  • How do they interface?
  • What happens when one component fails?
  • How do we prove that the complete system works?

What you will do

  • Participate in technical discovery with customers, partners and technology vendors.
  • Convert incomplete or ambiguous requirements into clear technical requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Develop solution architectures, system concepts, HLDs and technical designs.
  • Select suitable products and technologies from multiple manufacturers.
  • Build and technically validate BoM / BoQ.
  • Perform or review engineering calculations including power, autonomy, cable sizing and length, voltage drop, bandwidth, storage and system capacity.
  • Define interfaces between subsystems using I/O, relays, OSDP, serial protocols, BACnet, Modbus, ONVIF, APIs, SDKs, databases or middleware.
  • Define networking, servers, virtual machines, storage, services and databases where required by the solution.
  • Verify firmware, software versions, licensing, compatibility matrices and product limitations.
  • Build Proof-of-Concept and validation environments in the ALFRED NET laboratory.
  • Configure controllers, applications, servers, databases and devices.
  • Test new products, new software releases, integrations and functionality.
  • Reproduce technical problems and perform structured troubleshooting.
  • Analyze logs, network traffic, signals and system behavior to isolate root causes.
  • Perform backup, restore, upgrade, rollback and failure-mode tests.
  • Develop test procedures and execute FAT / integrated testing.
  • Participate in SAT and commissioning when technical presence is required.
  • Provide L2/L3 technical support for complex issues.
  • Work directly with vendor engineering and product-support teams.
  • Create technically complete escalation packages based on evidence, not simply “it does not work”.
  • Document architectures, configurations, test results, known limitations and reusable engineering knowledge.
  • Work with design, validation, commissioning and field engineers to transform architecture into an implementable solution.
  • Review technical work produced by other engineers and challenge assumptions when necessary.
  • Gradually take ownership of complete technical solutions and coordinate the engineering resources required to deliver them.

What we are looking for

A strong engineering foundation in one or more of the following:

  • Electronics
  • Automation / Control Systems
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Telecommunications
  • Mechatronics
  • Industrial / Embedded Systems
  • another relevant engineering discipline involving real physical systems

You should have meaningful hands-on experience with actual equipment, not only software or abstract IT architecture.

Relevant backgrounds may include:

  • systems integration;
  • industrial automation;
  • physical security;
  • BMS / building controls;
  • telecom;
  • test & measurement;
  • product / application engineering;
  • validation engineering;
  • embedded systems;
  • industrial networking;
  • transportation systems;
  • critical infrastructure.

Mandatory mindset

We do not expect you to already know every ALFRED NET platform or technology.

We do expect you to be able to learn unfamiliar technologies quickly.

The right attitude is:

“I don't know yet. I will read, understand, test and come back with an answer.”

Not:

“That's not my area.”

You should be comfortable moving between disciplines when solving a system-level problem.

Romanian-market requirement

This position requires a strong understanding of the local engineering and project environment.

Candidates must:

  • be fluent in Romanian and able to conduct technical discussions and work with technical documentation in Romanian;
  • already be based in Romania or have substantial professional experience working in Romania;
  • understand the realities of Romanian projects, customers, contractors, site conditions, technical documentation and project delivery;
  • be able to work regularly from our Bucharest/Ilfov office and laboratory.

This is not a relocation or full-remote position.

Nationality is irrelevant. Practical understanding of the Romanian engineering environment is not.

What this role is NOT

This position is probably not a match if your professional background is primarily:

  • Cloud architecture;
  • AWS / Azure / GCP;
  • DevOps;
  • SaaS;
  • pure software development;
  • ERP / CRM implementation;
  • enterprise IT architecture;
  • IT service management;
  • cybersecurity governance / GRC;
  • network engineering without interaction with physical/OT systems.

Software, databases, networking and cybersecurity are important parts of our solutions, but they are tools inside a wider engineering system, not the complete job.

Hands-on means hands-on

We prefer engineers who have seen their designs become real installations.

You should understand that:

  • a wrong cable length can affect voltage drop, cost and installation feasibility;
  • an incorrect power assumption can affect PSU sizing, UPS autonomy and protection;
  • a firmware or licensing decision can invalidate an integration;
  • an incorrect network assumption can make a theoretically correct architecture unusable;
  • a documentation mistake can propagate into procurement, installation, commissioning and acceptance.

A technical result is not finished simply because the drawing or spreadsheet is finished.

It is finished when the result is buildable, testable, supportable and correct in the real world.

Working style

This is a role for someone who enjoys solving difficult technical problems.

Especially during the initial period, substantial time will be spent working directly with equipment, systems and colleagues in the office and laboratory.

The role is not primarily field-based, but site surveys, FAT/SAT, commissioning or complex troubleshooting may occasionally require site presence.

Some projects have hard deadlines, commissioning windows or critical technical issues that require schedule flexibility.

We do not measure engineering quality by hours spent at a desk.

We do expect ownership, accountability and closure of the technical problem.

What success looks like

First 3 months

Understand the ALFRED NET engineering model, main technology families, laboratory and ongoing projects. Participate directly in solution development, validation and troubleshooting.

3–6 months

Independently own defined technical problems, produce or validate architecture components and BoM/BoQ, conduct lab validation and consolidate technical inputs from other engineers.

6–12 months

Take increasing ownership of complete solutions from requirement through architecture, engineering validation and technical readiness for implementation.

Longer term

Become one of ALFRED NET's technical authorities and contribute to the development of new solution patterns, technologies, engineering methods and other engineers.

What matters more than a perfect CV

We value:

Engineering curiosity. Systems thinking. Technical ownership. Accuracy. Learning speed. Discipline. The ability to connect apparently unrelated pieces into one working solution.

Years of experience matter.

The number of vendor logos on your CV matters much less.

When applying, please include in your CV or LinkedIn profile a short example of one system you personally helped design, integrate or troubleshoot involving technologies from at least two engineering domains. Please mention the systems involved, how they interfaced, and what your personal contribution was.
