Lead Software Engineer – Account Lifecycle Platform

About The Department

  • The team operates within Wealth Management Technology, supporting the Account Lifecycle platform (AOP), used by Franklin Templeton’s High Net Worth business.
  • The platform enables end-to-end onboarding lifecycles, including:
    • Various types of account opening
    • Document collection and e-signature workflows
    • KYC/AML verification
    • Workflow orchestration across onboarding, compliance, and operations teams
  • Key platform integrations include:
    • DocuSign for digital document execution and e-signature workflows
    • LexisNexis (Instant ID / Bridger) for KYC, sanctions, and risk screening via API integration
    • Rule engines (e.g., Drools) for dynamic business rule evaluation
    • Workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Camunda or equivalent)
  • The team operates in a cross-functional Agile model, collaborating with:
    • Front Office and Client Onboarding teams
    • Compliance (KYC/AML) and Risk teams
    • Digital platforms and client experience teams
    • External vendors (KYC providers, DocuSign, workflow tools)
  • Team culture:

Job Overview

  • This role exists to provide technical leadership and hands-on engineering expertise for the Account Lifecycle (AOP) platform, ensuring seamless and compliant onboarding and account management processes.
  • The Lead Software Engineer will:
    • Drive end-to-end design and delivery of onboarding and account lifecycle capabilities
    • Own platform components across workflow orchestration, rule engines, integrations, and document processing
    • Enable modernization of onboarding processes into a digital-first, automated experience
  • Success in this role enables:
    • Faster and seamless client onboarding and account opening
    • Reduced manual effort through workflow automation and rule-driven processing
    • Improved regulatory compliance and KYC accuracy
    • Enhanced client and advisor experience through digitization
How You Will Add Value

  • Design and develop account lifecycle workflows covering:
    • Account opening, onboarding, and maintenance
  • Develop and maintain integrations with:
    • KYC providers (e.g., LexisNexis, Signa360)
    • Document and e-signature platforms (DocuSign)
  • Implement and maintain business rules using rule engines (e.g., Drools)
  • Interacting with non-SQL dbatabases.
  • Ensure high-quality, scalable, and secure code for enterprise applications
  • Modernize onboarding workflows into event-driven, API-first architecture
  • Implement dynamic workflow orchestration for onboarding and approval processes
  • Enhance DocuSign integration for automated document generation and routing
  • Build and optimize:
    • KYC API integrations and automated validation workflows
    • Data capture, validation, and enrichment pipelines
  • Improve operational efficiency through:
    • Reduced manual touchpoints
    • Automated decisioning using rules and workflow engines
AI Fluency – AI-First Engineering & Business Workflow Mindset

  • Experience in:
    • Functional Integration between applications and existing Agents
    • Generate high-quality code by using prompts efficiently.
    • Debugging complex transaction flows
    • Writing automation scripts and test cases
    • Validates AI-generated outputs before applying to critical systems
    • Identifies opportunities to use AI

Technical Environment

Core Stack

  • Backend: Java / Spring Boot / Microservices

Required Skills

  • Strong experience in:
    • Java / microservices architecture
    • API design and integration
    • Workflow automation and orchestration
  • Experience working on:
    • Account Opening / Client Onboarding platforms
    • KYC/AML integrations and regulatory workflows
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Rule engines (Drools or similar)
    • Document management and e-signature platforms (DocuSign)
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience
  • Experience leading end-to-end platform components or modules
  • Bachelor’s or master's in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
Preferred Skills

  • Experience with:
    • LexisNexis, Signa360, or similar KYC tools
    • Workflow tools (Camunda, BPMN platforms)
    • Low-code/no-code workflow platforms
  • Familiarity with:
    • Digital onboarding and client experience platforms
    • Financial services domain (Wealth Management / Private Banking)
Work Schedule & Location

  • This role will work a hybrid schedule 3 days/week in any of our Franklin Templeton locations with a preference to locations in the Eastern time zone.
