About This Role
The Principal Power Electronics Solutions Architect – North America is a senior technical role within Carrier’s Global Power Electronics organization. The position serves as the primary interface between Business Units in North America and the Global Power Electronics team, ensuring that system and product requirements are translated into competitive, scalable, and globally aligned power electronics solutions. The role focuses on solution definition, architecture decisions, platform alignment, reuse, roadmap definition, and technical steering of power electronics development teams to ensure the right solutions are developed — not on detailed design. Working closely with global technology and platform leadership, you help ensure that North American system and program needs are reflected in the Global Power Electronics direction and that global platform strategies are effectively applied in regional programs. You report to the Director Global Power Electronics.
Role Responsibilities
- Define and own power electronics solution concepts based on requirements from Systems Engineering
- Act as the primary technical interface between Systems Engineering and power electronics development teams
- Support product-level system architecture definition by providing power electronics expertise and solution guidance
- Translate system needs into optimized power electronics architectures, solution proposals, and development direction
- Technically steer power electronics development teams to ensure development work follows agreed system needs, architecture decisions, platform strategy, cost objectives, and program priorities
- Ensure solutions meet performance, cost, reliability, and regulatory requirements
- Drive platform alignment, modularization, and reuse across applications while supporting global consistency
- Define requirements for power electronics modules, such as VFDs and DC/DC converters, as a clear basis for development
- Evaluate technical and commercial trade-offs and guide decision-making
- Ensure consistency between solution definition, development execution, and implementation across projects
- Leverage hands-on power electronics expertise to guide technical decisions and mentor engineers
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline
- 5 years of experience in power electronics or related system development
- Master’s Degree in an Engineering discipline
- Strong expertise in power electronics (converter design, control, integration, EMC, safety)
- Proven hands-on experience in the design and development of power electronics systems
- Solid understanding of VFD applications in HVAC and refrigeration systems
- Ability to translate system requirements into structured, cost-efficient, and globally scalable technical solutions
- Strong ownership mindset and ability to drive technical alignment across organizational interfaces
- Experience with platform-based development and modular architectures
- Strong focus on cost efficiency and value-driven engineering
- Demonstrated leadership capability, including guiding technical direction, influencing stakeholders, and mentoring engineers
Other Compensation
This position is entitled to short-term cash incentives, subject to plan requirements.
