The Role
We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Teams Telephony / Network Engineer to support a major telephony migration project within a large organisation.
The project involves migrating the existing physical desk-phone/PBX environment to Microsoft Teams Phone, with the objective of retiring the legacy PBX infrastructure and moving existing telephone/DDI number ranges directly into a cloud-based Teams telephony solution.
The Teams solution has already been configured and piloted with a number of departments and users. The successful engineer will work closely with the internal IT team to investigate and resolve current call quality issues, validate the underlying network infrastructure and support the project through to a stable and fully operational implementation.
This is a hands-on role suited to an engineer with strong experience across Microsoft Teams telephony, network infrastructure, voice/UC and troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with the internal IT team to support the migration from the existing PBX/desk-phone environment to Microsoft Teams Phone.
- Investigate and resolve existing Teams voice and call quality issues, including call delays, audio quality and connectivity issues.
- Assess and validate the organisation's network infrastructure to ensure it is appropriately configured to support Teams voice and future cloud-based initiatives.
- Troubleshoot network, connectivity, routing and voice-related issues impacting Teams telephony.
- Support the migration of existing DDI/telephone number ranges into the cloud-based Teams telephony environment.
- Assist with the transition away from legacy PBX infrastructure and associated dependencies.
- Support the configuration and troubleshooting of Teams calling, call queues, transfers and departmental numbers.
- Review network readiness and identify any configuration or infrastructure changes required to improve Teams voice performance.
- Provide technical recommendations around network and telephony improvements where required.
- Work with internal stakeholders and users during testing, migration and troubleshooting activities.
- Support testing and validation to ensure the solution is stable before full migration.
- Document relevant technical configuration and provide knowledge transfer to the internal IT team.
- Help ensure the underlying network environment is suitably prepared for future cloud, collaboration and telephony initiatives.
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience as a Network / Telephony Engineer.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Teams Phone / Teams Telephony implementations or migrations.
- Strong understanding of VoIP, SIP, telephony and voice networking.
- Experience troubleshooting Teams call quality and connectivity issues.
- Strong knowledge of network infrastructure, including routing, switching, DNS, DHCP and network connectivity.
- Understanding of network requirements and best practices for Microsoft Teams voice.
- Experience working with legacy PBX and physical telephony environments and supporting migration to cloud-based telephony.
- Experience with DDI/number porting and migration would be highly beneficial.
- Ability to analyse and troubleshoot complex voice/network performance issues.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with internal IT teams and technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable providing technical recommendations and taking ownership of troubleshooting through to resolution.
Project Outcome
The successful engineer will help deliver a stable Microsoft Teams telephony implementation, with the legacy PBX dependency removed, existing telephone numbers migrated into the cloud environment and the underlying network fully validated and optimised to support Teams voice and future initiatives.
The engagement will also include appropriate documentation and knowledge transfer to the internal IT team.
