Technical Product Manager
Indexed description
Reliance Financial is seeking a Technical Product Manager to own the translation of financial operations, executive priorities, and engineering constraints into a focused product roadmap and executable delivery plan.
You will help define and deploy operational infrastructure that enables faster underwriting, more effective servicing, stronger portfolio intelligence, better risk management, and more efficient collections. You will work with underwriters, servicing and operations teams, portfolio managers, collections teams, engineers, the Forward-Deployed Engineer, and company leadership to determine what must be built, in what sequence, and why. You will own product clarity from problem definition through release, adoption, and measurable business impact.
This role is intended for a product leader who can operate at both levels: understanding complex financial-services operations while engaging deeply with APIs, data models, system behavior, integrations, acceptance criteria, and production outcomes.
The Technical Product Manager must be able to reason about system boundaries, data lineage, synchronization behavior, AI agents, permissions, operational failure modes, and the downstream impact of changing a business rule or workflow.
- Maintain a clear, evidence-based roadmap for the operational underwriting and servicing infrastructure.
- Prioritize work based on revenue impact, risk reduction, customer value, operational efficiency, technical feasibility, and urgency.
- Connect product priorities to the realities of financial operations, including intake, underwriting, servicing, portfolio monitoring, payments, risk management, and collections.
- Identify dependencies between platform capabilities, integrations, data quality, infrastructure, and operating processes.
- Make tradeoffs explicit and communicate what is not being built and why.
- Define the system boundary for each initiative: user experience, API contract, data model, permissions, asynchronous processing, external integration, operational controls, and reporting impact.
- Sequence work across independently deployed web applications, backend services, scheduled jobs, database migrations, integrations, and operational enablement.
- Convert stakeholder needs and operational problems into concise product requirements, user stories, workflows, acceptance criteria, and release outcomes.
- Define business rules precisely, including eligibility logic, decision states, review workflows, portfolio metrics, alerts, and collections actions.
- Ensure requirements distinguish confirmed business rules from assumptions that require validation.
- Partner with engineering to understand system constraints and choose solutions that are reliable, maintainable, and appropriately scoped.
- Maintain a single source of truth for product behavior, current status, known gaps, and upcoming work.
- Specify data lineage and ownership for critical fields, including source system, transformation, synchronization timing, authoritative record, audit history, and user-visible behavior.
- Define requirements for idempotency, retries, error states, reconciliation, auditability, permissions, and safe handling of partial failures in automated workflows.
- Lead product readiness for deployments, including workflow validation, user acceptance, documentation, training, and stakeholder communication.
- Coordinate with the Forward-Deployed Engineer to ensure configurations, integrations, data mappings, and rollout plans are complete.
- Define release criteria and verify that delivered work solves the intended business problem.
- Monitor adoption and outcomes after release, then prioritize follow-up improvements based on evidence.
- Identify operational, data, security, or credit-risk implications before material changes are released.
- Coordinate technical readiness across environments, database migrations, secrets and configuration, API compatibility, webhook consumers, scheduled jobs, observability, and rollback or remediation plans.
- Serve as the primary product bridge between executives, funding/lending users, engineering, and implementation work.
- Run structured discovery with underwriters, portfolio managers, collections teams, and other users.
- Provide leadership with concise updates on what shipped, what is in progress, what is blocked, and what decisions are needed.
- Keep GitHub work items, project stages, product documentation, and stakeholder expectations aligned.
- Surface blocked decisions early and identify the owner and deadline for resolution.
- Define success metrics for major product initiatives and releases.
- Measure improvements in underwriting cycle time, decision quality, data completeness, portfolio visibility, collections execution, user adoption, and operational throughput.
- Use production data and user feedback to distinguish isolated issues from systemic product problems.
- Maintain a prioritized backlog of defects, workflow gaps, technical debt, and strategic capabilities.
- At least five years of experience in B2B fintech SaaS. This experience should include shipping and operating software products for business customers in financial services, funding/lending, payments, banking, or a closely related market.
- Demonstrated experience delivering software products that require integrations, workflow design, data quality, and cross-functional coordination.
- Ability to write precise product requirements and acceptance criteria that engineers can implement and users can validate.
- Working knowledge of APIs, relational databases, application architecture, and software delivery processes.
- Technical fluency with TypeScript/Node.js or comparable web stacks, REST API design, relational schemas, JSON data, authentication, row-level security, asynchronous processing, webhooks, background jobs, and third-party integrations.
- Ability to reason about distributed workflows, data synchronization, idempotency, retries, failure recovery, observability, and production release risk without requiring an engineering title.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical and operational tradeoffs to executives.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize under ambiguity and maintain delivery momentum.
- Willingness and ability to work onsite in Toms River three days per week.
- Experience in merchant cash advance, small-business funding/lending, fintech, payments, banking, loan servicing, collections, or another operationally complex financial-services environment.
- Experience with underwriting workflows, credit decisioning, portfolio analytics, loan management, or collections systems.
- Experience managing products that combine human workflows with automation or artificial intelligence.
- Experience with GitHub Projects, agile delivery practices, product analytics, and release management.
- Technical fluency with REST APIs, SQL, Postgres, cloud applications, and modern web products.
- Experience managing products deployed across multiple services or environments, with CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, secret management, monitoring, and production support considerations.
- Experience with operational platforms that combine workflow automation, structured data, analytics, notifications, document processing, or external system synchronization.
- Experience working directly with founders, executives, or senior operating stakeholders in an early-stage company.
During the first six months, success will be measured by the product manager’s ability to:
- Establish a trusted, prioritized roadmap that leadership and engineering can use to make decisions.
- Reduce ambiguity and rework by improving requirements, acceptance criteria, and product documentation.
- Deliver deployments that users understand, can validate, and are willing to adopt.
- Improve measurable operating outcomes, including underwriting turnaround time, servicing quality, workflow visibility, data integrity, and collections execution.
- Keep stakeholders aligned on shipped work, active work, blocked decisions, and next priorities.
- Ensure that product decisions reflect both business value and the operational risk of changing a financial workflow.
- Ensure that releases are measurable and operationally supportable, with defined success metrics, ownership, observability, user communication, and a plan for handling exceptions.
The Technical Product Manager will work closely with the CTO function, engineering, the Forward-Deployed Engineer, funding/lending operations, and company leadership. The role requires enough technical depth to challenge assumptions and enough operational empathy to understand how product behavior affects revenue, risk, users, and borrowers.
