About Akoncagua AI
Akoncagua AI builds domain-specialized AI and automation systems for technically demanding industries. We are seeking a Full-Stack Engineer Intern to help build secure, scalable, and intuitive enterprise applications that connect AI agents with accounting and financial workflows.
Responsibilities
· Build intuitive workspaces for invoice review, exception management, accounting classification, project and cost-code validation, approval routing, reconciliation, and financial close.
· Create evidence-centered interfaces that allow users to inspect source documents, extracted fields, relevant contract language, accounting policies, model reasoning, confidence, approvals, and transaction history.
· Design human-in-the-loop experiences that present material exceptions and actionable decisions instead of overwhelming users with raw agent activity.
· Build secure administrative interfaces for company policies, charts of accounts, vendors, projects, approval matrices, roles, thresholds, integrations, and automation settings.
· Develop frontend applications using React, Next.js, TypeScript, modern state-management patterns, accessible component systems, and robust client-side testing.
· Develop backend services and APIs using Python, Go or equivalent production frameworks.
· Design domain models for invoices, documents, vendors, projects, contracts, journal proposals, approvals, reconciliations, policies, evidence, and workflow events.
· Build deterministic services for balanced journal entries, duplicate prevention, amount and currency validation, period controls, approval authority, segregation of duties, and idempotent posting.
· Build durable workflows for long-running processes involving document intake, AI analysis, approval requests, reminders, retries, timeouts, escalations, posting, and reconciliation.
· Integrate the platform with accounting systems, ERPs, banks, document stores, email providers, identity platforms, project-management applications, and payment partners.
· Develop reliable integrations with systems such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Deltek, Unanet, Acumatica, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, and related enterprise platforms.
· Build typed APIs and tool interfaces through which AI agents can safely query data, prepare proposals, and request bounded actions.
· Implement immutable audit histories capturing source evidence, AI proposals, policy versions, user actions, approvals, overrides, system validations, and external-system responses.
· Build enterprise authorization using SSO, MFA, RBAC, attribute-based controls, approval limits, and software-enforced segregation of duties.
· Design secure multi-tenant architecture with strict data isolation, encryption, secrets management, configurable retention, and auditable access.
· Develop document-upload and evidence-viewing capabilities for PDFs, images, invoices, contracts, spreadsheets, and other financial records.
· Implement real-time workflow updates, notifications, task assignments, approval queues, and operational dashboards.
· Ensure consistency across long-running and distributed workflows using transactions, idempotency keys, optimistic concurrency, durable events, and replayable state transitions.
· Build APIs, webhooks, event streams, scheduled jobs, and integration-monitoring tools.
· Establish automated testing across unit, integration, contract, end-to-end, security, and workflow-replay levels.
· Build CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, feature flags, database migration processes, rollback capabilities, and production observability.
· Monitor application performance, workflow failures, external integration health, latency, error rates, and infrastructure cost.
· Partner closely with the AI Team to translate model outputs into safe, typed, testable product workflows.
· Collaborate with accounting and product stakeholders to convert real financial processes into clear user experiences and deterministic software behavior.
Required Qualifications
· Strong proficiency in TypeScript, React, Next.js, HTML, CSS, browser behavior, frontend architecture, and modern testing frameworks.
· Strong backend development experience with Python, Go, Node.js, Rust or a comparable production server framework. Spring boot is also preferred.
· Strong understanding of API design like REST, GraphQL, gRPC, relational data modeling, SQL, PostgreSQL, transactions, indexing, migrations, and performance optimization.
· Experience designing and operating secure, multi-tenant SaaS applications.
· Experience building complex workflow-driven products involving approvals, state transitions, permissions, exceptions, and long-running processes.
· Experience with event-driven architecture, background jobs, message queues, webhooks, retries, idempotency, and distributed-system failure modes.
· Experience integrating with third-party and enterprise APIs, including authentication, rate limits, pagination, versioning, reconciliation, and integration monitoring.
· Experience with cloud infrastructure, Docker, K8s, CI/CD, automated deployments, application monitoring, logging, tracing, and incident response.
· Strong understanding of authentication, authorization, SSO, MFA, RBAC, secrets management, encryption, audit logging, and common web-security risks.
· Experience building automated unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end test suites.
· Ability to create polished, accessible, and responsive user interfaces for complex enterprise workflows.
· Ability to translate ambiguous business requirements into maintainable product architecture and incremental releases.
· Strong debugging, profiling, systems-design, and technical communication skills.
· Ability to work effectively in an early-stage environment with substantial autonomy, changing requirements, and direct customer feedback.
· Overall, we are looking for someone who can outsmart these coding agents and has good ability to collaborate where they embrace and understand every idea rather than just relying on outputs given by Claude Code, Codex, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience building FinTech, accounting, ERP, audit, procurement, accounts-payable, reconciliation, banking, or financial-workflow software.
· Familiarity with double-entry accounting, journal entries, approval controls, reconciliation, financial close, and audit evidence.
· Experience integrating with QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Deltek, Unanet, Acumatica, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, or comparable systems.
· Experience with React component systems, advanced data tables, document viewers, PDF annotation, workflow builders, and evidence-centered interfaces.
· Experience with Temporal, Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, or comparable workflow and event infrastructure.
· Experience with PostgreSQL, pgvector, object storage, Redis, OpenSearch, or graph databases.
· Experience developing software that incorporates LLMs, AI agents, structured model outputs, streaming responses, tool calls, or human review.
· Experience implementing Model Context Protocol servers or comparable typed tool interfaces for AI systems.
· Experience with Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, feature-flag platforms, and zero-downtime deployment practices.
· Experience implementing immutable or append-only audit histories, event sourcing, workflow replay, and data-lineage systems.
· Familiarity with SOC 2, financial-data governance, privacy controls, security assessments, and enterprise procurement requirements.
· Experience in architecture, engineering, construction, infrastructure, consulting, government contracting, or another project-based industry.
- · Strong product-design instincts and experience simplifying technically or financially complex workflows for non-technical users.
