The Opportunity
As an Autonomous Systems Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing, developing and integrating advanced control and autonomy capabilities. You'll work alongside multidisciplinary teams of software, systems, aerospace and robotics specialists to deliver innovative solutions for some of the UK's most exciting defence programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop autonomy and control software for advanced autonomous systems
- Design and implement algorithms for decision support, navigation and autonomous behaviours
- Develop high-quality software using C, ideally C++
- Build and evaluate models and simulations within synthetic environments
- Support system integration, verification and testing activities
- Participate in experimental trials across the UK and internationally
- Collaborate with engineers, researchers and customers to deliver operational capability
- Contribute to research and development activities across autonomy and uncrewed systems programmes

Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong software development experience using C, ideally C++
- Experience working on complex or safety-critical systems
- Understanding of systems engineering principles
- Background within autonomy, robotics, control systems or related engineering disciplines
- Experience developing algorithms and software-led solutions
- Experience with modelling and simulation tools
Desirable Experience
- MATLAB / Simulink
- ROS / ROS2
- AI or machine learning applications
- Hardware and software integration
- Flight control systems
- Autonomous vehicles or uncrewed platforms
- Defence, aerospace or advanced engineering environments
Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Robotics or another relevant STEM discipline
