Offer DescriptionA research grant will be awarded within the R&D Project "DigiMas – Digital Platform for integration Seismic Assessment and Strengthening of Traditional masonry Buildings" (Project No. *****, OP ********).

The grant will support the following work plan, with a provisional start in April **** and a maximum duration of 12 months (renewable if needed).

Candidate Profile / Admissibility RequirementsResearch Field

Civil Engineering or related fields.

Must hold a Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.

Must comply with Article 9 of the Research Grant Regulations (FCT I.P., No. ********).

At the time of hiring, must provide proof of enrollment in either:

PhD in Civil Engineering or related discipline.

Or a non‐degree course related to the tender's subject.

Preferential Factors

Prior experience in masonry and old masonry construction.

Responsibilities / Work Plan

Compare different modelling approaches for traditional masonry buildings, considering geometric and structural complexity.

Assess seismic behaviour of masonry buildings with varying degrees of irregularity using performance‐based assessment methods.

Systematise and categorise structural strengthening techniques for traditional masonry buildings (global and local solutions).

Develop advanced numerical models of strengthening techniques and evaluate their impact on seismic performance;

apply optimisation and AI/ML for automatic identification of effective combinations.

Define recommendations for numerical analysis and rehabilitation/strengthening of irregular masonry buildings to improve seismic performance.

Host Institution and Scientific SupervisionThe work will be carried out at ISISE – Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering Department, University of Minho (Azurém, Guimarães).

Scientific supervision will be provided by Doctor Graça Fátima Moreira Vasconcelos, with coordination by Doctor José Manuel Sena Cruz.

Evaluation CriteriaChoice of candidate will be based on Merit (100 %) and Interview (20 %).

Candidate Merit (CM)

Criterion A

– Motivation letter (10 %).

Criterion B

– Academic path (Final classification in Master/Integrated Master) (50 %).

Criterion C

– Personal curriculum (professional and scientific background) (40 %)

Sub‐criterion C1

– Relevant professional experience (50 %).

Sub‐criterion C2

– Publications (50 %).

CM Is Calculated As

CM = (A×0.10) + (B×0.50) + (0.40×[(C1×0.50)+(C2×0.50)]).

Candidates with CM

Interview (INT)

– conducted for the best four candidates with highest CM.

Criterion E1

– Motivation (30 %).

Criterion E2

– Technical knowledge required for the work plan (30 %).

Criterion E3

– Overall assessment (40 %).

INT Is Calculated As

INT = (E1×0.30) + (E2×0.30) + (E3×0.40).

Final Classification (FC) Is

FC = (CM×0.80) + (INT×0.20) .
