Staff Software Engineer, Server Infrastructure & Automation

(Remote with Quarterly Travel to Fort Worth TX or Topeka KS)

Optomi, in partnership with a leading organization, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer – Server Infrastructure & Automation to help modernize and automate enterprise data center infrastructure. This role will focus heavily on infrastructure automation and software engineering, with approximately 80% of the work centered around automation and 10–20% focused on physical infrastructure. The ideal candidate will understand server infrastructure at a deep technical level while using Python, Ansible, and software engineering practices to automate provisioning, monitoring, maintenance, ticketing, and lifecycle management.

Experience of the Right Candidate:

• Strong infrastructure software engineering background
• Experience building software and automation within an infrastructure domain
• Deep understanding of enterprise server infrastructure and operating systems
• Strong Python and/or Ansible experience
• Experience automating infrastructure provisioning, monitoring, maintenance, or remediation
• Experience working with legacy infrastructure and modernizing existing environments
• Understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems
• Experience with bare-metal infrastructure and data center environments
• Strong troubleshooting and systems engineering skills

Responsibilities:

• Develop automation solutions for enterprise server infrastructure and data center operations
• Automate server provisioning, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and lifecycle activities
• Build and maintain Python and Ansible playbooks and automation frameworks
• Develop self-monitoring and automated remediation capabilities
• Automate incident detection and ticket creation through infrastructure monitoring
• Support bare-metal operating system deployments and lifecycle management
• Analyze legacy infrastructure and identify opportunities for automation and modernization
• Develop infrastructure standards, procedures, and automation playbooks
• Troubleshoot server, operating system, and infrastructure issues
• Collaborate with data center, network, security, and infrastructure teams
• Commit automation and infrastructure playbooks into established repositories and operational frameworks
• Help establish scalable, repeatable infrastructure management processes
• Support the transition toward a hybrid cloud infrastructure strategy

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Python, Ansible, Go, or Java
• Experience with Linux infrastructure
• Windows Server administration experience
• Infrastructure-as-Code experience
• Git and CI/CD experience
• Experience with server hardware, firmware, drivers, and out-of-band management
• Experience with monitoring, alerting, and ITSM platforms
• Experience with hybrid cloud infrastructure
• Experience developing self-healing or autonomous infrastructure
