Software Engineer – Red Hat Linux / C++

Position Overview

We are seeking a Software Engineer with strong Red Hat Linux expertise to support the migration of a custom software suite from SUSE Linux to Red Hat Linux.

The software suite is developed primarily in C and C++ and is used for the acquisition of precision time-synchronized positional and RF data. This role will support the migration, maintain software functionality, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure compatibility and performance within the new Linux environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, implement, document, and maintain software applications.
• Support the migration of custom applications from SUSE Linux to Red Hat Linux.
• Analyze software architecture, compatibility, security requirements, and system parameters.
• Write and compile code based on documented designs.
• Identify and resolve programming, application, and architecture issues.
• Modify and upgrade applications to maintain functionality and compatibility.
• Evaluate system performance and recommend improvements.
• Gather and evaluate end-user requirements.
• Troubleshoot application, operating system, and network-level issues.

Required Qualifications

• Active Secret clearance
• Strong Red Hat Linux experience
• Strong C and C++ programming skills
• Experience with Python
• Experience with Qt
• Proficiency with Git
• Strong understanding of TCP/UDP networking
• Experience with tcpdump
• Strong Linux experience
• Ability to work onsite in Tukwila, WA

Desired Qualifications

• Windows experience
• Experience migrating applications between Linux distributions, particularly SUSE to Red Hat
• Experience with RF data, positional data, precision timing, or similar data acquisition systems
• Experience troubleshooting software at the application, operating system, and network levels

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on software engineer with deep Red Hat Linux and C/C++ experience who is comfortable working close to the operating system and network stack. You’ll play a key role in migrating a specialized software system to a new Linux environment while ensuring continued performance and functionality.
