This role is a regular, full-time position requiring a commitment of 37.5 hours per week. This is a hybrid role based in CMRU’s main office in Vernon Hills (Chicago), Illinois.
Responsibilities
- Accounting Operations
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations with a focus on strong internal controls and process efficiency.
- Lead timely and accurate month-, quarter-, and year-end close processes.
- Oversee the preparation of journal entries, monthly bank reconciliations, analysis of balance sheet, income, and expense accounts.
- Direct the accounts payable process; monitor and review supplier/expense invoices and payments.
- Manage the fixed asset accounting process, including acquisitions, disposals, asset tagging, subsidiary ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and period-end close.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiencies.
- Serve as back-up for all accounting functions as necessary.
- Financial Reporting
- Lead the preparation and delivery of timely monthly financial reporting.
- Oversee cash management, cashflow, revenue funding, HQ financial requests, and loan positions, including preparing weekly, monthly, and quarterly cash forecasts.
- Analyze financial data and provide actionable insights to leadership.
- Respond to inquiries from Senior Leadership Team regarding special reporting requests.
- Prepare various audit schedules to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit, including JSOX compliance.
- Coordinate with external tax department to complete yearly tax package.
- Payroll
- Administer and process bi-weekly multi-state payroll using ADP Workforce Now.
- Collaborate with People Operations to confirm accurate new hire, termination, and benefit deductions.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, wage laws, and other payroll regulations.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and payroll tax liabilities, including federal, state, and local taxes.
- Prepare journal entries for payroll-related accounts.
- Manage payroll tax registrations, notices, audits, and correspondence with tax authorities.
- Budget
- Assist with budget and forecast preparation.
- Evaluate cost data to plan budgets, calculate SOWs, and monitor expenses.
- Leadership & Staff Development
- Supervise accounting team, consisting of one principal accountant and one staff accountant.
- Provide ongoing coaching and development to accountants with diverse levels of experience and tenure.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA or MBA preferred.
- 5+ years of relevant accounting experience required, preferably in a multi-national R&D environment.
- 3+ years of experience leading a team.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as Great Plains, Oracle, SAP, or similar platforms.
- A thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and GAAP standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office with advanced Excel capabilities.
- Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
- Demonstrated commitment to building efficient accounting processes and developing high-performing teams.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Proven track record of driving continuous improvement and embracing change.
