The Jr. Systems Administrator supports daily operations and maintenance of server, storage, and basic network systems. This role assists with troubleshooting connectivity issues, monitoring network health, and supporting core network services such as DNS and DHCP. The Jr. Systems Administrator participates in the administration of virtualized environments (VMware/Hyper-V), helps maintain backup and recovery systems, applies system patches, and contributes to documentation efforts that enhance infrastructure reliability. Candidates are expected to have foundational networking knowledge gained through professional experience, home labs, or educational programs. Occasional travel may be required to support infrastructure needs across multiple sites.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in team projects, meetings, and assignments to support infrastructure initiatives.
- Support the configuration and administration of virtual servers in VMware and/or Hyper-V environments.
- Assist with patching and system updates to reduce vulnerabilities and maintain system health.
- Maintain and verify backup systems; participate in disaster recovery testing and documentation.
- Support user and group management using Active Directory and Group Policy.
- Help configure and maintain core services such as DNS, DHCP, DFS, and Certificates.
- Perform basic network troubleshooting, including diagnosing connectivity issues, identifying misconfigurations, verifying switch and port status, and assisting with network equipment documentation.
- Assist with monitoring network and system health using departmental tools.
- Support the setup and deployment of infrastructure equipment such as switches, access points, and cabling under supervision.
- Document technical procedures, system configurations, and troubleshooting steps as directed.
- Read, understand, and enforce departmental procedures and policies.
- Ensure accurate incident tracking and asset management through service desk ticketing and inventory systems.
- Travel to remote locations to assist with equipment deployment and provide support as needed.
- Participate in after-hours work and on-call rotation as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Report to work in the office 5 days a week.

- Active Directory User and Group Management
- Basic understanding of Group Policy
- Excellent communication skills
- Exposure to monitoring tools
- Basic knowledge of PowerShell
- Interest in learning cloud platforms
- Create, use, and maintain documentation and SOPs
- Backup and recovery experience
- Self-motivated and eager to learn
- Understanding of basic networking concepts
Education: Bachelor's Degree or Technical Institute Degree/Certificate in Information Systems or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of IT work experience in a technical support, help desk, or junior systems administration role. Familiarity with ticketing systems, documentation practices, and basic networking is preferred.

- CompTIA A+
- CompTIA Network+
- CompTIA Security+
- Azure Fundamentals
Note: As a member of the technology team, the contractor must be able to respond to requests and incidents. A smartphone with data service meeting agency security requirements will be provided and must be kept current with manufacturer/carrier security updates throughout the engagement. Contractor will use mobile applications such as Outlook, Teams, and ServiceNow, kept up to date via the platform app store.
