A leading government healthcare organization is seeking a Senior Linux System Administrator to support and maintain critical Linux infrastructure across on-premises and Azure cloud environments. This position offers the opportunity to work on highly visible enterprise systems supporting essential public healthcare services while contributing to security, automation, cloud operations, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
What You'll Do
- Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot Ubuntu and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers in production and non-production environments.
- Manage Linux workloads running both on-premises and within Microsoft Azure environments.
- Perform system patching, upgrades, security updates, and lifecycle management.
- Implement and maintain security hardening standards, compliance controls, and audit requirements.
- Develop and maintain automation solutions using Bash and PowerShell scripting.
- Support Azure DevOps pipelines, repositories, and CI/CD processes involving Linux-based systems.
- Administer Docker container environments and support secure secrets management practices.
- Manage storage, filesystems, partitions, and Linux performance tuning.
- Support identity and access management solutions including PAM, SSSD, and sudo administration.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, development, and cybersecurity teams on operational and security initiatives.
- 8+ years of enterprise Linux administration experience.
- Strong experience administering Ubuntu Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
- Experience supporting Linux workloads within Microsoft Azure.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and source control processes.
- Hands-on Docker administration experience.
- Strong Bash scripting skills and working knowledge of PowerShell.
- Experience with Linux security hardening, compliance, auditing, and vulnerability remediation.
- Knowledge of systemd, PAM, auditd, SSL/TLS certificates, SSH hardening, and firewall management.
- Experience managing filesystems, storage, and logical volume management (LVM).
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced enterprise environment.
- Azure certifications such as AZ-900 or AZ-104.
- Security certifications including Security+, CISSP, or similar credentials.
- Ubuntu or Linux-related certifications.
- Experience in healthcare, government, Medicaid, or highly regulated environments.
- Familiarity with HIPAA, CMS, or other compliance frameworks.
- Competitive pay rate of $68-$70/hour.
- Long-term contract with extension potential.
