W1 Assistant Professorship (Tenure Track) for General Linguistics with a Focus on Neurolinguistics and AI

The W1-professorship (Tenure Track) at the Department of Linguistics, Humanities Section, is to be filled by April 1, 2027, subject to the approval of the the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of the State of Baden-Württemberg.
The University of Konstanz is a dynamic and internationally successful research university with approximately 10,000 students. The campus university’s architecture promotes interdisciplinary cooperation and a sense of community among researchers, lecturers and students. The University of Konstanz has been continuously funded by the German Excellence Strategy since 2006.
We seek candidates with a research focus on the neurocognition of language who are motivated by research questions relevant to linguistics. Applicants should incorporate modern AI-based methods into their neurolinguistic research. Experience with brain imaging methods, in particular electroencephalography (EEG), is essential. We expect a high level of expertise in the analysis of biosignals, the use of AI-based methods for pattern recognition and data modelling, as well as in the application of state-of-the-art statistical methods. The professorship spans the interface between linguistics, neuroscience and artificial intelligence, both in research and teaching.
The junior professorship involves a teaching load of 4 SWS (until the interim evaluation) or 6 SWS (following a successful interim evaluation) in the department’s various degree programmes, including the M.A. Speech and Language Processing, the B.Ed. and M.Ed. language programmes, and in the doctoral programme. Non-German-speaking applicants are expected to be able to teach in German within three years of employment.
A good fit with the research agenda of the newly approved Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1760 Silence, Noise and Signal in Language and willingness to participate in this collaborative research enterprise, as well as in other research networks of the Department of Linguistics and the University, is expected. Applicants should demonstrate a high degree of pedagogical aptitude, excellence in research, and an above-average doctoral degree. If the candidate was employed as a researcher during or after completing their doctorate, the duration employment should not exceed 6 years. The post is a fixed-term civil service appointment (Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit).
