Staff Geotechnical Engineer (Houston)

- Perform geotechnical engineering analyses, design and evaluation related to shallow and deep foundation systems, settlement analyses, slope stability evaluations, retaining structures, consideration of seismic effects, and earthwork.
- Prepare and review of engineering design calculations, reports, specifications and construction documents, and other technical documents as needed.
- Develop work scopes, subsurface exploration oversight, and management of site investigation subcontracts.
- Support field assignments associated with site investigation activities and in support of foundation and earthwork construction activities.
- Perform geotechnical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
- Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects including, but not limited to: power plants, electric transmission and distribution, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
- Design geotechnical components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
- Applies strong knowledge of commonly used geotechnical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the geotechnical engineering services industry.
- Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.
- Update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.
- Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of power, process, industrial, healthcare, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
- Performs field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program required.
- Master of Science Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering (with Geotechnical Emphasis) from an ABET accredited program strongly preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of related geotechnical engineering experience required.
- PhD in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering (with Geotechnical Emphasis) preferred.
- The individual must have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT).
- Strong knowledge and proficiency in standard geotechnical engineering techniques, principles, and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
- Proficient geotechnical software skills preferred, including Ensoft LPILE, slope stability (GeoStudio or UTEXAS4), liquefaction analysis software, excavation support and wall design software.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated leadership and critical thinking skills. Analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
