Job title: ES&H Representative
Location: Brownsville, TX - Per diem is available for non-locals
Schedule: 5/40-5/50 (could ramp up to 5/60 depending on project phase)
Duration: 12-month W2 contract (good possibility of extension due to project duration)
Job Summary
In this position, you will incorporate safety and health requirements into complex project planning, design activities, and operational processes to minimize potential risks and impacts. You will conduct risk assessments, contribute to bid reviews, lead meetings and communications, and monitor performance trends. Your recommendations will help improve the effectiveness of safety procedures and work practices.
Major Responsibilities
- Supports the implementation of the safety portion of the ESH Program, including both technical and administrative elements.
- Assists in the development and execution of Safety and Health Management Plans, supporting procedures, and training programs.
- Provides guidance to Engineering, Construction, Procurement, Subcontracts, Commissioning, and other departments to ensure safety and health requirements are incorporated into project planning and execution.
- Interprets safety and health standards and delivers support in plan development, risk assessments, and ESH program implementation.
- Investigates moderately complex safety issues and regulatory requirements and prepares related reports and documentation.
- Assists with safety studies, risk evaluations, program assessments, and audit activities.
- Participates in emergency response efforts, incident investigations, and corrective action processes.
- Communicates and collaborates with stakeholders to address and resolve concerns.
- Takes part in meetings with clients, project teams, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Performs ESH inspections and monitoring activities to identify hazards, assess risks, evaluate corrective measures and controls, and verify compliance with contractual, regulatory, project, and company requirements.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in Occupational Safety, Occupational Health, or a related field, with 5-8 years of relevant experience; or alternatively, 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Specialized expertise in a safety discipline (such as Personal Protective Equipment, Lockout/Tagout, Fall Protection, Excavation Safety, or People-Based Safety) or an engineering discipline (such as Civil, Process Safety, or Mechanical Engineering), or other related fields.
- Knowledge of safety management systems, monitoring programs, principles, and methodologies.
- Understanding of safety and health regulations, applicable legislation, and permitting processes managed by regulatory agencies.
- Knowledge of engineering, construction, and subcontractor work practices and processes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with proficiency in computer applications.
- Bachelor of Science degree in a specialized technical discipline (e.g., Safety, Industrial Engineering, Public Health) or Process/Mechanical Engineering, and/or practical experience performing the responsibilities outlined above.
- Bilingual proficiency in both Spanish and English is required.
Additional Information
Work requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections including but not limited to: extensive walking in and around a construction site often in high heat and high humidity conditions, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.). Must be willing to work a flexible schedule as required that may include but not limited to nightshift or split shift.
