POSITION SUMMARY: The Vice President and General Manager is the senior business and operating leader for Kalyn Siebert’s specialized trailer manufacturing operation. With oversight of all departments, this executive is accountable for aligning the entire organization to achieve significantly higher and sustainable production performance. The role establishes the operating direction, performance expectations, and executive-level KPIs for safety, quality, delivery, cost, people, and growth; ensures department leaders work from one coordinated plan; and provides the oversight, coaching, and resources needed to deliver results. The position retains full P&L and customer accountability while maintaining a clear operations-first focus and advancing Kalyn Siebert’s lean operating culture.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


  • Operational Leadership and Plant Performance
  • Lead all department heads as one executive team with shared priorities and clear accountability for business and operational results.
  • Assess the current operating model and lead the realignment of people, processes, capacity, and resources required to support higher production levels.
  • Translate company strategy, demand, and customer commitments into an integrated operating plan with clear production, staffing, capacity, cost, and capital priorities.
  • Establish a focused executive KPI scorecard covering safety, quality, schedule attainment, throughput, on-time delivery, labor efficiency, cost, inventory, and workforce performance.
  • Conduct disciplined weekly and monthly operating reviews with department leaders, requiring clear ownership, corrective actions, and follow-through when performance is below plan.
  • Provide direction and remove cross-functional barriers while holding department heads accountable for managing execution within their respective functions.
  • Maintain sufficient visibility in the operation to validate performance, understand constraints, and ensure leadership actions are producing sustainable results.


Safety Quality and Compliance:

  • Set expectations for a safety-first culture and hold functional leaders accountable for compliance, risk reduction, and timely corrective action.
  • Ensure the Operations and Quality leaders maintain systems that consistently meet customer specifications, engineering requirements, and applicable regulatory and quality standards.
  • Review leading and lagging safety and quality indicators and require effective countermeasures for incidents, defects, rework, warranty exposure, and repeat nonconformances.


Manufacturing Execution and Continuous Improvement:

  • Provide executive oversight for the development and execution of plans for production, scheduling, capacity, labor, materials flow, maintenance, and equipment reliability.
  • Ensure Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, Sales, Finance, Human Resources, and Operations work from aligned assumptions and priorities that support the required production level.
  • Sponsor lean improvement across the value stream, ensuring leaders use visual management, standard work, structured problem solving, and waste reduction to improve flow and predictability.
  • Require data-based plans to improve throughput, schedule attainment, on-time delivery, labor efficiency, inventory performance, and cost.
  • Review and approve organizational, process, technology, facility, and capital changes needed to remove systemic constraints and increase sustainable capacity.
  • Ensure new products, engineering changes, and customer commitments are supported by realistic capacity, material, labor, quality, and execution plans.


People and Organizational Leadership:

  • Coach, develop, and hold all department heads accountable for both functional performance and enterprise-wide collaboration.
  • Clarify decision rights, reporting relationships, and leadership expectations so issues are resolved at the appropriate level and escalated promptly when necessary.
  • Evaluate the leadership structure and capability required for increased production; address gaps through development, recruitment, succession planning, or organizational redesign.
  • Build a culture of ownership, direct communication, fact-based decisions, and consistent follow-through across all departments.
  • Partner with Human Resources and operational leaders on workforce planning, staffing, retention, performance management, and supervisory development.


Plant Financial Stewardship:

  • Maintain full P&L accountability and ensure reliable forecasts, budgets, cost controls, and financial reporting.
  • Connect financial results to operating performance by reviewing the drivers of labor, scrap, rework, overtime, inventory, overhead, margin, and working capital.
  • Hold functional leaders accountable for corrective actions when operational or financial performance falls below plan.
  • Prioritize capital expenditures based on safety, capacity, quality, reliability, customer requirements, and expected return.


Customer and Cross Functional Support:

  • Maintain executive relationships with key customers and dealers and ensure leadership teams resolve significant delivery, quality, and service issues.
  • Partner with Sales and Engineering to align market opportunities and customer commitments with operational capacity and execution capability.
  • Support commercial decisions with clear assessments of lead time, capacity, investment, resource requirements, and delivery risk.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations management, business, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10-15 years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience, including senior responsibility for a full business, plant, or large multi-functional manufacturing operation.
  • Demonstrated success realigning operations, increasing sustainable production, and improving safety, quality, delivery, productivity, cost, and employee performance.
  • Experience leading experienced functional leaders, including operations and finance, and holding department heads accountable to shared business objectives.
  • Experience establishing executive KPIs and using operating and financial reviews to drive corrective action and sustained performance.
  • Demonstrated P&L leadership, including operating budgets, forecasts, working capital, and capital investment decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a lean operating system using daily management, visual controls, standard work, structured problem solving, and continuous improvement.
  • Working knowledge of production planning, fabrication and welding operations, materials management, quality systems, and equipment maintenance.
  • Experience with customer, dealer, contract, and commercial negotiations preferred.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:


  • This position regularly works in manufacturing areas where personal protective equipment is required, including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe footwear, and other mandatory safety equipment.
  • The facility includes typical plant lighting, ambient temperature variation, moving equipment, and manufacturing processes.
  • The role requires frequent presence on the manufacturing floor and may require work outside normal business hours to support operational needs.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


  • Sit or stand as needed and walk throughout office and manufacturing areas for extended periods.
  • Occasionally reach above shoulder height or below the waist and lift or move materials as required.
  • Use proper lifting techniques and comply with all site safety requirements.
