Senior Embedded Software Engineer

CEDES Hermannstadt – Sibiu

CEDES, a Swiss multinational leader in intelligent sensor and safety systems, delivers innovative solutions for elevators, escalators, industrial doors, and warehouse management, combining cutting-edge technology with a collaborative and innovative culture across 60+ countries.

CEDES is looking for a passionate and experienced Embedded Software Engineer to join our R&D team and contribute to the continued success and evolution of our industry-leading sensor solutions for the elevator market. We are looking for someone who is excited to strengthen and advance our established core business while also supporting the development of innovative new technologies, including our growing digital and connected product portfolio. This role offers the opportunity to work on products that have a direct impact on customers worldwide in an international and future-oriented engineering environment.

This is a hands-on senior role with broad scope. You'll own significant parts of the product rather than a single isolated component, and the technology landscape changes as the project does — so curiosity and adaptability matter as much as deep expertise in any one stack.

Your area of responsibility

  • Understand product and system behavior and turn product needs into software requirements;
  • Design, implement, and maintain embedded (usually bare-metal) applications in C and C++;
  • Bring up new hardware from schematics and datasheets, and commission, automate, and test software on target;
  • Develop image-processing software for embedded systems;
  • Build and maintain cross-compilation toolchains, build systems, and debugging workflows;
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines for embedded software delivery;
  • Perform code reviews and execute unit, integration, and system testing, including under required environmental conditions and applicable standards;
  • Create testing concepts, specifications, measurement protocols, test reports, and qualification documents;
  • Ensure device reliability, performance, and security across the system lifecycle;
  • Document software architecture, interfaces, and development processes;
  • Support regulatory approvals and certifications where required;
  • Act as project lead when needed, and steer subprojects to timely delivery;
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, mechanical, platform, analytics, and digital product teams;
  • Provide product support (claims, changes, manufacturing) and support sales activities (field tests, approvals).

Your profile

  • Degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience;
  • Several years (e.g. 5+) of professional embedded software development;
  • Strong bare-metal C and C++; comfortable reading and writing assembly when the situation calls for it;
  • Solid grasp of microcontroller architectures, memory constraints, real-time behavior, and interrupt handling;
  • Hands-on with low-level peripherals and buses (SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, …) and hardware debugging (JTAG/SWD, oscilloscope, logic analyzer) ;
  • Comfortable across platforms: microcontrollers, microprocessors, SoCs, and PC, including safety-relevant products;
  • Proficient with version control (Git) and modern build/CI workflows;
  • Comfortable owning a feature or product end to end — not just a narrow slice — and switching context across the stack as the project requires;
  • Quick to pick up unfamiliar technologies, tools, and platforms; treats a new stack as an opportunity rather than an obstacle;
  • Pragmatic about tooling: chooses the right technology for the problem rather than defaulting to what's familiar;
  • Self-motivated and self-directed — takes ownership of work end to end and drives it without close supervision;
  • Able to present and defend technical work clearly to peers, stakeholders, and customers;
  • Willing and able to step into a project-lead role and take responsibility for scope and timeline.

Our offer

  • Competitive salary package and attractive benefits;
  • International, modern, and innovation-driven work environment;
  • Professional, collaborative, and supportive team;
  • Real opportunities for professional growth and career development.
