This position will be onsite, located at our Nucor Steel - Gallatin division in KY. This position requires travel [approximately 25%] to support other divisions.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US (Nucor Business Technology (NBT) will not sponsor the need for a visa now or in the future). Due to federal security requirements applicable to this role, only U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents are eligible for consideration.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Configure, secure, and maintain NBT’s network infrastructure to ensure efficient, reliable, and high- performance operations.
- Collaborate and coordinate with local IT groups and enterprise teammates to implement effective network solutions to include working with networking fundamentals, including: TCP/IP networking, LAN/WAN environments, and common routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP.
- Coordinate infrastructure installations and maintenance, including setting up network equipment and performing hardware configuration and upgrades at local sites.
- Drive consistency in networking standards by adhering to and promoting current standards and emerging networking best practices across the enterprise.
- Provide technical support and customer service to teammates by promptly addressing network-related requests, troubleshooting issues, and assisting with IT projects.
- Identify and implement improvements to departmental standards, policies, and procedures to enhance network reliability and efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network issues in a timely manner, analyzing problems to minimize downtime and ensure the network operates efficiently.
- Familiarity with network security best practices and access control models, and experience working with network hardware/software (switching/routing, firewalls, wireless, etc.).
- Leverage AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) to accelerate analysis, documentation, or requirements gathering.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related IT/Engineering field combined with one year of work experience supporting local area network infrastructure OR 3 years of experience supporting local area network infrastructure
- Professional networking certifications such as CCNA or CCNP
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Perl, Python) for network automation and task optimization
- Experience with network security practices and access control models (e.g. Palo Alto, SDWAN and Firewall, Cisco ISE, SDA )
- Experience leading technical projects
- Experience in managing single-mode and multimode fiber cabling, and experience with installation and maintenance
