Title: The IT System Administrator

Reports to: IT Manager

Job Summary: The IT Systems Administrator supports, maintains, and improves the hospital’s technology environment, including servers, endpoints, network infrastructure, telecommunications, business applications, clinical systems, and security tools. This role helps ensure reliable, secure, and compliant IT services for hospital and clinic operations, while providing responsive support to staff, providers, and approved vendors.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Infrastructure, Systems, and Network Administration

  • Deploy, monitor, maintain, upgrade, and support IT systems, including laptops, desktops, printers, telecommunications equipment, virtual servers, network switches, firewalls, databases, and enterprise applications.
  • Administer Microsoft Windows Server environments, Active Directory, Group Policy, DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, LDAP, and related infrastructure services.
  • Support virtualization platforms and assist with server lifecycle planning, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Configure and support network infrastructure, including switching, VLANs, port configuration, wireless access points, and firmware updates.

Endpoint, Patch, and Application Support

  • Maintain Windows workstation and server patching processes, including use of Microsoft patch-management tools.
  • Support Windows endpoint operating systems and productivity applications, including troubleshooting, imaging, configuration, and deployment activities.
  • Document incidents, service requests, changes, and troubleshooting notes accurately in the IT ticketing system.
  • Support printers, copiers, scanners, and related print-management workflows used throughout the hospital and clinics.

Microsoft 365 Services and Administrative Tools

  • Support Microsoft 365 security and compliance activities, including multi-factor authentication, conditional access, device compliance, audit support, data protection, and user training related to safe and appropriate use of Microsoft 365 tools.
  • Assist with Microsoft 365 user account administration, mailbox and distribution group support, Teams and SharePoint access requests, licensing coordination, security settings, and troubleshooting of Microsoft 365 service issues.
  • Administer and support Microsoft 365 services and tools, including Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Microsoft 365 admin center, Entra ID, Intune, and related collaboration, identity, and endpoint-management services as assigned.

Clinical and Business Systems Support

  • Assist with support for health information systems, including EHR, PACS, medical equipment connectivity, and other clinical/business applications as assigned.
  • Coordinate with vendors to install, maintain, and troubleshoot software, hardware, medical technology interfaces, and other IT-supported systems.
  • Perform additions, moves, changes, and troubleshooting for VoIP telecommunications systems or successor phone platforms.

Security, Compliance, Backup, and Disaster Recovery

  • Maintain technology security standards by following organizational policies, HIPAA requirements, and applicable industry best practices.
  • Assist with HIPAA audits, Security Risk Analysis activities, access reviews, and documentation needed for compliance readiness.
  • Support backup, restore, and disaster-recovery operations, including testing, documentation, and troubleshooting of backup systems such as Veeam or successor platforms.
  • Protect confidential, patient, employee, and organizational information accessed, processed, transmitted, or stored on hospital systems.

Planning, Collaboration, and Service Quality

  • Work with the IT Manager on annual IT budget preparation, technology planning, lifecycle replacement needs, and project coordination.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through training, vendor resources, documentation, and participation in required meetings.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects and follow quality, safety, and reporting expectations designed to protect patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Participate in the 24-hour on-call rotation and perform other duties as assigned by the IT Manager.
