About the Company

We are the globally successful Solar-Log GmbH and BKW Energie AG, an internationally active energy company based in Switzerland. Solar-Log GmbH‘s expertise lies in software development for solar monitoring, smart energy and feed-in management, while BKW offers total solutions in the areas of energy, buildings and infrastructure. Our vision is to make the digitalisation of renewable energy sources a reality.

About the Role

Embedded Software Engineer C++ (m/f/d)

Solar-Log develops embedded energy management devices for photovoltaic plants. Our solutions connect and coordinate inverters, meters, battery storage systems and grid-control interfaces, manage active and reactive power locally, collect operational data and communicate with cloud services. We are currently developing our next-generation firmware platform: a modular, multi-process system running on embedded Linux. Our software runs on physical devices in energy installations across Europe and worldwide. Reliability, testability and effective diagnostics are therefore essential.

We are looking for a senior engineer with deep hands-on Linux expertise, strong modern C++ and software architecture skills, as well as hands-on experience with embedded devices.

If this sounds like the technical challenge you are looking for, we would be pleased to hear from you. Please send us your complete application, including your CV, cover letter and salary expectations. Employment certificates or reference letters from previous employers are very welcome.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and take ownership of modern C++ applications and system services running on embedded Linux.
  • Further develop our modular, multi-process firmware architecture, including a shared-memory process image, asynchronous applications, state machines and IPC.
  • Work on core runtime components such as firmware core services, configuration, event processing, data logging and component detection.
  • Build, flash, configure and debug firmware on physical target devices and test benches.
  • Maintain CMake-based builds and develop automated unit, module and system tests.

Required Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience developing and debugging software on embedded Linux devices.
  • Production-level expertise in modern C++, including C++17/20/23.
  • Experience designing or maintaining modular firmware architectures, not only adding features to an existing framework.
  • Good knowledge of Linux system programming, processes, concurrency, shared memory, IPC and asynchronous processing.
  • Strong experience with automated testing at unit, module and system level. Experience with simulators or hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test environments is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with CMake, cross-compilation, on-target debugging and CI/CD.
  • Ability to take technical ownership and explain architectural decisions clearly.
  • Experience with Yocto, Modbus, RS485, SunSpec, MQTT, Secure Boot and signed-update implementations.
  • Fluent in German and English.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Technical Computer Science or a comparable technical discipline.
  • At least five years of professional experience in embedded Linux software development or a similar position.
