About the Role
Grapevine Communications (GVC) is looking for an experienced Senior Technician to lead ICT structured cabling and network equipment installs on-site across Auckland. You'll take the lead role on jobs of varying size — installing, commissioning and troubleshooting equipment such as servers, switches, Wi-Fi access points, IP phones and display screens, alongside the structured cabling that connects it all. You'll take ownership of quality from first fix through to sign-off, be the most senior technician that the junior staff see day to day, resolve the complex faults others can't, mentor apprentices and junior/intermediate technicians, and build the client relationships that keep GVC's reputation strong on site.
You'll report to a Project Manager as your formal line manager and take day-to-day direction on-site from whichever Senior Technician or Field Manager is leading the job.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead install teams on jobs of varying size, including planning how the work is carried out on-site
- Install, commission and troubleshoot network equipment (servers, switches, Wi-Fi access points, IP phones, display screens) and resolve complex cabling and network faults independently
- Deliver toolbox talks, enforce site safety standards and escalate any genuine health & safety risks immediately
- Liaise directly with clients and keep internal and external project stakeholders updated
- Escalate any variation requests to your supervisor before proceeding on-site
- Mentor and direct the day-to-day work of apprentices, junior technicians and intermediate technicians on-site
- Sign off completed work and provide accurate as-built markups to project managers and the documentation team
- Act as a point of escalation alongside Field Managers for on-site issues others can't resolve
- Maintain time and material records across the jobs and technicians you're leading, and be available to work overtime as required
What We're Looking For
- 4+ years' experience in ICT structured cabling
- Ability to accurately follow instructions and work to specification
- Ability to read and update documentation such as floor plans
- Competent testing and certification of cables (e.g. with a Fluke DSX tester)
- Solid understanding of device installation and connection
- Strong communication skills with both clients and colleagues
- High problem-solving ability, especially with complex or unusual faults
- Accurate record-keeping
- Proven ability to lead and get the best out of a team
Why Join GVC?

- Supportive team environment.
- Employer KiwiSaver contributions (on top of your pay).
- Southern Cross Health Insurance (after 3 months, pro rata).
