Position Title: IT Support and Compliance Specialist
Location: Auburn Hills, Michigan
Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site
Position Overview
We are seeking an organized, detail-oriented IT Support and Compliance Specialist to join our growing IT team in a defense manufacturing environment. In this on-site role, you will split your time between reliable end-user support and helping establish the documentation, compliance, and operational routines that keep our systems running and audit-ready.
You do not need to be a senior network architect or a master programmer; our technical leadership has that covered. We need someone who is comfortable in mixed-OS environments, has a sharp troubleshooting mind, follows a checklist carefully, and takes pride in building clean documentation and disciplined processes. This is a hands-on role with a clear path to grow into systems administration and security work.
This position will support a U.S. Department of Defense program and requires proof of U.S. Citizenship to be eligible for employment.
Key Responsibilities
End-User Support
- Provide day-to-day Tier 1/2 technical support for users in a mixed environment, primarily Windows 11, with a couple MacOS devices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with printers and scanners.
- Diagnose endpoint, software, and basic connectivity issues. You won't be managing firewalls, but you should be able to isolate variables and identify foundational network problems (e.g., DNS or DHCP vs. local hardware failure).
- Set up and deploy workstations and peripherals according to established baselines.
Systems & Backup Operations
- Carry out routine, documented maintenance tasks under the guidance of IT leadership
- Monitor daily backup jobs, flag failures, and perform scheduled restore tests, recording results.
Odoo ERP Support
- Provide first-line support for Odoo ERP users: account and access requests, permission changes, and basic troubleshooting.
- Log and coordinate escalation of issues beyond first-line scope to IT leadership or vendors.
CMMC / NIST 800-171 Compliance Support
- Help maintain compliance documentation: the System Security Plan (SSP), Plan of Action & Milestones (POA&M), and the evidence library that supports each control.
- Execute recurring compliance tasks on a defined schedule: user access reviews, audit-log review, vulnerability-scan tracking, asset and media inventory updates.
- Assist with gathering and organizing evidence for internal audits and third-party assessments.
Documentation, Ticketing & Asset Management
- Assist in authoring IT policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and run books, leveraging AI authoring tools for clarity and consistency.
- Manage the IT help desk queue, ensuring all requests are logged, tracked, and moved through proper approval and change-management workflows.
- Maintain the hardware/software asset inventory, including systems in scope for CUI.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Windows 11: Strong proficiency with desktop administration and troubleshooting.
- Linux Familiarity: Comfortable working knowledge of the Linux command line (navigating the file system, editing config files, restarting services, applying updates). Formal server administration experience is not required — we will train you on our environment.
- Networking Fundamentals: Solid grasp of IP addressing, DHCP, and DNS sufficient to troubleshoot and escalate connectivity issues.
- Documentation & Process Focus: Exceptional written communication skills with a knack for structuring technical information logically. Disciplined adherence to change-management and approval processes.
- Ticketing Experience: Prior experience in an ITIL-aligned or structured ticketing system.
- AI-Assisted Writing: Experience with, or strong willingness to learn, generative AI tools to draft policies and documentation efficiently.
- U.S. Citizenship (required for defense project eligibility).
- Ability to Lift up to 30 lbs.
Preferred (But Not Required)
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks (NIST SP 800-171, CMMC, ISO 27001, or SOC 2).
- Exposure to Ubuntu or Debian-based server administration.
- Experience using or supporting Odoo or another ERP system.
- Experience in a manufacturing or defense contractor environment.
Why This Role Is Unique
This position is ideal for an IT support professional who wants to grow beyond the help desk. You will get structured, hands-on exposure to server operations, backup management, ERP support, and CMMC compliance — one of the most in-demand skill sets in the defense industrial base — while working directly with technical leadership and helping shape the operational
