Software Specialist (Developer Platforms)

As a Software Specialist (Developer Platforms), you'll play a key role in shaping and evolving the platforms, tooling and automation capabilities that support software delivery across ASB. You'll help engineering teams build, deploy and operate software more effectively while contributing to the continual improvement of developer experience, platform reliability and delivery practices. The role has a strong focus on GitHub Enterprise, engineering enablement, automation and modern platform technologies.

About The Team

You'll be joining the Digital Workplace Platform team within ASB's Digital & Engineering Practice. The team is responsible for the platforms, tooling and automation capabilities that enable engineering teams across the organisation to build and deliver software safely, securely and efficiently.

Working across source control, CI/CD, cloud platforms, automation and developer tooling, the team plays an important role in improving how software is developed, deployed and supported. From GitHub Enterprise through to Kubernetes platforms and delivery automation, you'll help drive continuous improvement and create better outcomes for engineers across ASB.

About The Role

This is a hands-on technical role focused on designing, delivering and supporting modern developer platforms and engineering tooling. You'll work closely with engineering teams to understand their needs, improve delivery practices and help unlock greater automation across the software delivery lifecycle.

A significant part of the role involves supporting and evolving GitHub Enterprise, GitHub Actions, self-hosted runners and associated platform capabilities. You'll also contribute to cloud-native platform solutions, CI/CD pipelines, container platforms and automation initiatives that help teams deliver software faster and more effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Support and evolve GitHub Enterprise and associated developer platform capabilities
• Design, build and improve CI/CD pipelines and automation solutions
• Partner with engineering teams to understand requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions
• Support platform adoption and help teams get the most value from engineering tools and services
• Contribute to cloud and container-based platform solutions, including Kubernetes environments
• Implement and maintain automation processes that improve delivery efficiency and reliability
• Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support across developer platforms and tooling
• Collaborate with engineers, platform teams and technology stakeholders to deliver improvements
• Contribute to platform architecture, documentation and knowledge sharing
• Identify opportunities to simplify processes, improve developer experience and increase automation

About You

You're someone who enjoys enabling other engineers to succeed. You understand both software development and infrastructure concepts and are comfortable navigating the space between the two. You enjoy solving technical challenges, improving delivery processes and helping teams adopt better ways of working.

You'll be naturally curious, eager to learn and excited by emerging technologies. You enjoy collaborating with others, communicating technical concepts clearly and building solutions that make a meaningful difference to how engineers work every day. Whether your background is platform engineering, DevOps, cloud engineering or software engineering, you'll bring a practical mindset and a passion for continuous improvement.

Key Skills & Experience

Must Have

• Strong experience with GitHub Enterprise and modern source code management practices
• Experience with GitHub Actions, CI/CD pipelines and delivery automation
• Experience working in Platform Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering or Cloud Engineering environments
• Strong understanding of cloud platforms and cloud-native technologies
• Experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and container-based platforms
• Experience supporting and improving developer tooling and engineering platforms
• Knowledge of DevOps architecture, automation frameworks and engineering best practices
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• Proven ability to solve complex technical problems and influence outcomes across teams

Nice to Have

• Experience with self-hosted runners and secret management solutions
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code technologies, including Bicep
• Software development experience, particularly with C# or similar languages
• Experience designing and implementing developer self-service capabilities
• Experience improving developer experience or platform adoption
• Exposure to AI-enabled engineering tools and emerging developer technologies
• Experience mentoring or coaching other engineers
