JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Information Technology is responsible for developing and maintaining an IT

organization that adapts to the needs of St. John's while maximizing standards, best practices, and future trends so that technology supports patient safety and evidence-based care in all facilities. Serve as a key business partner with all of the executive leaders of the organization to facilitate the process of making sound information technology business and operational decisions. Establishes and maintains ongoing relationships and communications with Cerner, other IT vendor relationships, government agencies, third party payers, and other healthcare organizations to achieve strategic alignment and maximize value for St. John's. Assures St. John's has a modern and progressive IT security program, and is well positioned with respect to cybersecurity and other external threats. Serves as St. John's Security Officer.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Leadership

- Promotes effective, open communication and develops collaborative working relationships with all levels of staff including administrators, faculty, researchers, and students through community structures and individually.

-Fosters an environment that promotes professional growth and staff development through effective leadership, cross-training and education.

-Defines the IT organizational structure and allocates staff appropriately based on organizational and/or departmental plans and priorities.

-Leads and facilitates a forward thinking technology organization and fosters a culture that embraces technical innovation.

-Provide leadership and planning the development of Analytics and Business Intelligence platform that enables access to real-time, actionable data and provides self-service reporting capabilities.

-Develops and leads IT strategic and tactical planning for SJH that supports the overall mission and business strategy of the organization. Plans and leads the future direction of IT and ensures delivery of high quality service to

support clinical and business operations.

-Keeps senior leadership and IT staff informed in an appropriate manner of key projects, activities and/or issues for areas managed.

-Develops, implements, and monitors the operational and capital budgets for information technology.

-Defines the IT organization structure and allocates staff appropriately based on organizational and/or departmental need.


Strategic Planning

-Develops and recommends corporate policies and procedures for acquiring, implementing, supporting and using information systems and services.

-Participates in organizational wide planning activities to ensure information technology investments support the business plan as well as other tactical and operational priorities.

-Work with key stakeholders to enhance the IT governance structure to offer clarity, solicit information, and buy-in from all areas of the business regarding deliverance of information technology to meet the needs and priorities of the organization.

-Continuously looks for new ways to improve and promote quality and demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness across SJH.


Service Delivery

-Benchmark industry to stay current with trends regarding information technology and its use inside and outside of healthcare.

-Establish an IT support structure to work closely with the clinicians and physicians to integrate and automate the clinical systems across the continuum of care.

-Identify opportunities to utilize additional functionality and capabilities within Cerner.

-Facilitates the productivity of current IT solutions, focusing on minimizing cost and maximizing results. Helps to increase the customer and product/service base of the health system enterprise.

-Demonstrates a strong service orientation and ability to empathize with all levels of the organization.

-Integrate themselves into SJH's culture and build strong trusting relationships and credibility across SJH. Be a leader with high visibility, transparency, and engagement by getting to know and gain support of medical staff and key leaders throughout the organization. Engage their staff to work together, solve problems, and do their best work here at SJH.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education

Required: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or Project Management or equivalent.

Preferred: Master's degree, Information Technology certifications and/or Project Management certifications.


Minimum Work Experience

Required: Several years of progressively responsible experience in IT, including several years of management level experience.

At least seven years experience in Information Technology and least five years experience in project management.

Preferred: Experience with Cerner EMRs.

Office setting. All areas of organization. Frequent stressful situations. Staff and project management with compressed deadlines.


Physical Requirements

Ability to sit/stand in front of a computer for extended periods of time, handle multiple disruptions, juggle competing demanding priorities, communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to crouch, stoop and/or bend. Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds as needed. Irregular hours, some walking and sitting, computer use, stressful situations.

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer


Internal and External Contacts: All hospital employees, physicians, community agencies, vendors and guests.
