We are looking for an experienced Senior Linux Engineer to join a highly technical engineering environment, with responsibility for the design, administration, optimisation and support of critical Linux infrastructure. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with very strong Linux engineering experience, combined with solid Kubernetes and Python skills. You will work across infrastructure, automation, containerisation and platform engineering, helping to build and maintain highly available and scalable environments. The successful candidate will be comfortable working at a deep technical level within Linux and will have a strong troubleshooting mindset, excellent automation capabilities and experience operating systems and platforms in complex production environments.

THIS ROLE IS ONSITE 5 DAYS A WEEK

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, build, administer and support Linux infrastructure across production environments.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting, performance tuning and root-cause analysis across Linux systems.
• Manage Linux operating systems, including configuration, patching, upgrades, security hardening and lifecycle management.
• Monitor system performance, capacity, availability and reliability.
• Develop and maintain automation and tooling using Python and scripting.
• Support and administer Kubernetes environments and containerised workloads.
• Work closely with infrastructure, DevOps, software engineering and application teams.
• Automate repetitive operational tasks and improve infrastructure management through Infrastructure as Code and scripting.
• Participate in incident, problem and change management processes.
• Investigate complex production issues and implement permanent fixes.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of resilient, scalable and highly available platforms.
• Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures and system standards.
• Assist with the implementation of security, monitoring and observability improvements.
• Participate in an on-call/support rotation where required.

Essential Experience:

• Strong commercial experience as a Linux Engineer / Systems Engineer / Platform Engineer.
• Expert-level knowledge of Linux, ideally across enterprise production environments.
• Strong experience with Linux administration, troubleshooting, performance tuning and system configuration.
• Strong Kubernetes experience, including administration, troubleshooting and supporting production workloads.
• Strong Python development/scripting experience.
• Excellent understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S and SSH.
• Experience with automation and configuration management.
• Strong understanding of system monitoring, logging and troubleshooting methodologies.
• Experience working with high-availability and production-critical systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex technical issues.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on Senior Linux Engineer who enjoys solving complex infrastructure problems and working close to the technology. You will have a deep understanding of Linux rather than simply having used it as part of a broader infrastructure role. You should be confident troubleshooting systems from the OS level upwards and be comfortable using Python to automate, improve and scale operational processes. Strong Kubernetes experience is also important, particularly within production environments. You should be technically curious, proactive and comfortable working in a fast-paced engineering environment where reliability, automation and performance are critical.
