The successful candidate will work in the Systems Engineering team, which is responsible for the procurement, management, maintenance & monitoring of Red Hat Enterprise Linux server resources which host ESB’s mission critical SAP and business application systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Deploy, maintain and monitor Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems (physical, virtual and, cloud-hosted) to ensure high availability for business-critical applications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues independently, escalating as and when necessary to senior team members or vendors.
- Administer Red Hat management tools such as Satellite and Ansible Automation Platform for patching, configuration and lifecycle management.
- Implement routine automation using Bash and/or Ansible to improve efficiency and reduce manual tasks.
- Apply cybersecurity best practices including patching, access control and system hardening to maintain compliance.
- Support hosting of SAP and database environments (SAP HANA, DB2, MaxDB, Oracle) on RHEL infrastructure.
- Maintain clear documentation and communicate effectively with stakeholders for audits, reporting and cross-team collaboration.
- At least 3 years' hands-on experience administering and supporting enterprise RHEL environments in a production setting, including troubleshooting, patching, security management, automation, and operational support.
- Recognised third level qualification in Computing, Information Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Proven ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues independently, with sound judgement on when to escalate.
- Practical experience using Red Hat management and automation tools, including Satellite, Ansible Automation Platform, Bash and Ansible (or equivalent technologies).
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity best practices in Linux environments, including patch management, system hardening, access control and vulnerability remediation.
- Effective communication, documentation and stakeholder management skills, with a collaborative approach to knowledge sharing and cross-functional teamwork.
- Experience hosting SAP HANA and related components in RHEL environments.
- Experience of working with Cloud platforms, preferably Azure.
- Knowledge and/or experience in containerisation and orchestration – Kubernetes or OpenShift platform administration.
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) certification or other relevant industry accreditation is desirable.
Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.
