About The Opportunity

Join a specialist engineering enablement team within a global investment bank that is transforming the way software is built, tested and deployed across the organisation.

Rather than developing a single application, you'll embed with engineering teams to modernise their software delivery practices, improve release cadence and help them adopt world-class engineering standards. This is a highly technical, hands-on role where you'll solve real engineering problems by writing code, building automated tests, implementing CI/CD pipelines and improving application security and reliability.

If you're passionate about software craftsmanship, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering and developer experience, this is an opportunity to make a significant impact across mission-critical enterprise platforms.

The Role

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll partner directly with development teams that are facing challenges around software delivery, release automation or application modernisation.

Approximately 70% of your time will be spent writing code and configuration, helping teams improve everything from automated testing and dependency management through to deployment automation, observability and platform resilience.

This role combines Software Engineering, DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering, making it ideal for engineers who enjoy solving complex technical problems while helping other engineering teams become more effective.

Responsibilities

What You'll Be Doing

You'll Work Alongside Development Teams To

  • Improve software delivery and release cadence
  • Design and implement comprehensive automated testing strategies
  • Build unit, integration and smoke test suites
  • Introduce Test-Driven Development (TDD) best practices
  • Upgrade Java applications and Node.js runtimes
  • Modernise legacy applications and dependencies
  • Containerise applications using Docker
  • Build and improve CI/CD pipelines
  • Automate dependency management using Renovate
  • Improve branching strategies, source control and code review processes
  • Strengthen application security, authentication and secrets management
  • Automate database deployments using Liquibase
  • Implement infrastructure automation using Ansible
  • Introduce observability, monitoring and logging best practices
  • Improve exception handling and operational resilience
  • Design deployment strategies supporting highly available production systems
  • Mentor engineering teams on modern software delivery practices

Requirements

What We're Looking For

We're looking for experienced software engineers who enjoy improving engineering practices as much as building software.

You'll Ideally Have Experience With

  • Strong Java, Kotlin, Scala or TypeScript development
  • Test-Driven Development (TDD)
  • Automated testing frameworks
  • Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery
  • Secure software development
  • Docker
  • Kubernetes or OpenShift
  • Linux (Red Hat preferred)
  • Maven, Gradle and npm
  • Git and modern source control workflows
  • Application observability and monitoring
  • Cloud-native software delivery
  • AI-assisted software development using tools such as GitHub Copilot

Technology Stack

You'll work with modern engineering technologies including Java, TypeScript, Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Red Hat Linux, Jenkins, Gradle, Maven, npm, Liquibase, Ansible, Renovate, Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, observability platforms and AI-assisted development tools including GitHub Copilot.

Nice to have

This is a unique opportunity to influence engineering practices across a large-scale enterprise technology estate. You'll help development teams modernise their applications, accelerate software delivery and adopt best-in-class engineering standards while working alongside highly experienced software engineers, DevOps practitioners and Site Reliability Engineers.

Rather than maintaining existing systems, you'll drive meaningful engineering improvements that enable teams to release software faster, improve application security and deliver resilient, production-ready platforms.

If you enjoy solving complex engineering challenges, championing software quality and leaving every team you work with in a better place than you found it, this role offers an exceptional opportunity to make a lasting impact.

We offer

  • Opportunity to work on bleeding-edge projects
  • Work with a highly motivated and dedicated team
  • Competitive salary
  • Flexible schedule
  • Benefits package - medical insurance, sports
  • Corporate social events
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Well-equipped office
