Viridien / CGG is recruiting for the role of HPC Senior Hardware Engineer. Senior HPC Hardware Engineer leading the design, deployment, support and improvement of HPC infrastructure across a UK data centre. The role focuses on reliability, performance and scalability, with technical leadership across compute, GPU, storage, networking and data centre infrastructure.

What you’ll do

• Lead the installation, maintenance and lifecycle management of HPC server infrastructure, including CPU and GPU platforms.
• Install, upgrade and replace server components such as processors, GPUs, storage, networking and system hardware.
• Perform firmware, BIOS and hardware compatibility updates while keeping platforms stable.
• Manage enterprise storage platforms and support storage maintenance and vendor coordination.
• Maintain spare parts inventory, warranty schedules and lease management.
• Lead hardware troubleshooting and incident resolution, and support change, problem and service improvement activities.
• Develop technical documentation and operational procedures, and take part in infrastructure projects and on-call support.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across the team.

What they’re looking for

• Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related discipline.
• Have strong experience supporting enterprise HPC infrastructure across compute, storage and data centre environments.
• Bring strong Linux administration experience.
• Be able to diagnose and resolve complex hardware and infrastructure issues.
• Understand HPC system architecture and enterprise server platforms.
• Have experience with infrastructure monitoring tools such as Zabbix.
• Show strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Be able to provide technical leadership and mentor other engineers.

Additional role information

• GPU-based HPC, oil immersion cooling, scripting or automation languages, and infrastructure automation are listed as preferred experience.
• The team works with HPC Operations, Platform Engineering, Facilities and technology vendors.
• The role involves data centre standards, rack layouts, cabling, equipment audits and operational procedures.
• The role includes support for hardware deployments and decommissioning.
