Senior Security Engineer – Linux, HPC & Agentic AI

I want to save you some time before you read the rest of this advert. I'm looking for a very particular type of Security Engineer, and for the right person I think this opportunity is going to resonate immediately.

Unfortunately, my client can't move outside the parameters they've set for this hire. This isn't a role where we can compromise on the core technical requirements, so please only apply if the background I'm describing below genuinely reflects your experience.

This role is for a true Security Engineering generalist.

My client isn't looking for an AppSec specialist, Detection Engineer, Vulnerability Management specialist or someone whose experience sits predominantly within one area of security.

They want someone who has touched many different facets of Security Engineering throughout their career.

That could include offensive security and vulnerability research, detection and response, Linux and infrastructure security, threat modelling, identity and access, DevSecOps, security architecture, vulnerability management, platform security and building security tooling and automation.

You don't need to be the world's leading expert in every one of those areas. Very few people are.

But you do need breadth.

The reason is the environment.

This is probably the most technically challenging and demanding environment I've ever recruited into, and that means I'm looking for a certain type of engineer.

Someone with deep systems knowledge and core Linux fundamentals. Someone who has spent their career living and breathing highly technical Linux environments and solving security problems within them.

The infrastructure includes large-scale Linux estates, GPU compute, Kubernetes, high-performance computing and proprietary supercomputers.

You need to be comfortable with complexity and, importantly, with the unknown.

I'm particularly interested in Security Engineers who have worked in similarly demanding technology environments where they've become the person people turn to when something unfamiliar needs to be understood, broken down and solved.

This is also very much a building role.

You'll identify security problems and then help engineer the solution. That could mean building detection capabilities, security controls and guardrails, developing automation, investigating vulnerabilities, improving security processes or writing tooling to remove repetitive security work.

And then there's Agentic AI.

This is becoming an increasingly important part of the environment.

As autonomous agents gain access to internal systems, tools, data and compute, the security team is thinking deeply about the new attack paths this creates and how those systems can be secured without restricting what engineers are able to build.

Previous Agentic AI security experience would obviously be incredibly interesting, but I'm not looking for someone who has simply added “AI Security” to their profile.

I'm looking for an exceptional Security Engineer who can apply strong systems and security fundamentals to a new generation of problems.

This role won't be for everyone.

If your career has been highly specialised within one security discipline, it probably isn't the right one.

But if you've built your career across security engineering, understand Linux and systems at a fundamental level, enjoy solving problems you've never encountered before and have operated in some of the most technically demanding environments around, I want to hear from you.
