Tanoto Foundation is committed to creating lasting impact through evidence-based programmes and continuous learning. The Monitoring, Learning, and Evaluation (MLE) team ensures that our programmes and organizational initiatives remain data-driven, accountable, and focused on measurable outcomes.
We are looking for a Data Management Specialist to support these efforts through effective data management, database development, data quality assurance, and insightful visualisation of information that strengthens analysis, learning, and decision-making across the Foundation.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Collection, Analytics, & Visualization
- Develop and maintain dashboards and data visualizations that provide programme teams and management with timely, accessible, and actionable insights for decision-making.
- Conduct data analysis and generate insights from multiple sources to support programme monitoring, performance assessment, strategic planning, and organizational learning, and reporting
- Support programme teams in designing digital-based data collection tools and processes, ensuring that data requirements are aligned with programme objectives, indicators, and MLE frameworks.
- Conduct regular data quality checks and validation to identify data gaps, inconsistencies, duplication, and errors.
Database & Data Management
- Manage programme databases and historical data to ensure data continuity and retrieval.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance the MLE data management system to reflect the latest programme developments, incorporate emerging technologies, and align with industry standards and best practices.
- Automate routine data processing and reporting processes where appropriate to improve efficiency, reduce manual work, and minimize data processing errors.
- Implement appropriate data protection mechanisms, access controls, and security measures in accordance with organizational policies and relevant standards.
- Develop and maintain data standards, protocols, and documentation to ensure consistency in data collection, management, and reporting across programmes and locations.
Capacity building
Train and mentor staff in data literacy to effectively manage, analyze, visualize, and use programme data.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Data Science, Data Management, Measurement, Social Studies, Development Studies, or other relevant disciplines.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in database management, IT/server management, data visualization, dashboard development, or related areas, preferably in the private sector or non-profit sector.
Specific knowledge and aptitude
- Understanding of best practices in data management and data visualization, including experience with digital platforms and tools such as Microsoft Azure, Excel, Dynamics 365, Power BI, and Kobo Toolbox.
- Familiarity with education, health, and leadership development sectors
- Strong computational skills, including logical thinking, process mapping, data analysis, and problem-solving.
- Strong communication skills, including data presentation, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear and accessible messages.
- Intermediate proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
