Position Overview
An established financial services organization is seeking a Director of Finance to provide leadership and oversight across its Finance function and partner closely with executive leadership on financial, operational, technology, and strategic initiatives.
Reporting to the CFO, the Director of Finance will oversee a team of approximately 10 professionals spanning areas including financial planning and analysis, financial reporting, treasury, and financial operations.
This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role. The successful candidate will combine strong financial expertise with the ability to develop people, improve processes, partner with technology teams, and lead the Finance organization through continued modernization and transformation.
Key Responsibilities
Finance Leadership & Business Partnership
- Partner closely with the CFO and executive leadership to support financial strategy, organizational priorities, and long-term business objectives.
- Provide financial insight, analysis, and recommendations to support executive decision-making.
- Lead and develop a high-performing Finance team while building accountability, collaboration, engagement, and succession readiness.
- Mentor and develop existing finance leaders and create strong cohesion across the department.
- Maintain a hands-on approach and remain actively involved in key financial initiatives and complex issues.
- Partner with Information Technology and Data & Analytics teams on financial systems, reporting, workflow, and process improvement initiatives.
- Play a key leadership role in enterprise technology implementations affecting Finance.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, reporting capabilities, data quality, and financial processes.
- Support the continued development and utilization of data warehouse and business intelligence capabilities.
- Help translate Finance requirements into practical technology and data solutions.
- Oversee financial reporting, accounting, audit, compliance, and governance activities.
- Establish and maintain appropriate accounting policies, internal controls, and financial governance practices.
- Provide oversight of regulatory reporting and other compliance-related financial activities.
- Partner with auditors, regulators, actuaries, and other external stakeholders as applicable.
- Monitor relevant accounting, regulatory, and industry developments.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, expense management, and financial performance processes.
- Develop reporting and performance measures that support organizational accountability and strategic decision-making.
- Partner with business leaders to evaluate financial performance, resource allocation, and opportunities for increased efficiency.
- Guide financial analyses, forecasts, and business cases supporting strategic initiatives.
- Provide oversight of treasury operations, cash management, banking relationships, investments, and other core financial activities.
- Support capital management and activities contributing to the organization's long-term financial strength.
- Ensure appropriate controls and processes are in place to safeguard assets and manage financial resources.
- Monitor liquidity, financial risk, and activities impacting the organization's overall financial position.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline required.
- CPA, MBA, master's degree, or other relevant professional designation preferred but not required.
- 10+ years of progressively responsible finance, accounting, financial reporting, treasury, or financial operations experience.
- Established Director-level or comparable leadership experience required; this is not intended as a first-time leadership step-up opportunity.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing finance teams and other finance leaders.
- Broad-based finance background with exposure across multiple areas such as accounting, FP&A, reporting, treasury, financial operations, and controls.
- Financial services experience strongly preferred; property & casualty insurance experience is particularly attractive.
- Experience with insurance accounting, statutory reporting, regulatory reporting, reinsurance, investments, or related areas is a plus.
- Experience participating in or leading significant financial systems, technology, data, ERP, or enterprise transformation initiatives strongly preferred
