Role Description The Staff Data Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Vancouver, BC. This role is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining large-scale data pipelines and infrastructure to support analytics, reporting, and data-driven applications. Day-to-day tasks include architecting robust ETL processes, optimizing data models and data warehouses, and ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of data systems. The Staff Data Engineer will collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and software engineers to define data requirements, implement best practices, and improve data quality and governance. The role also involves mentoring other engineers, reviewing technical designs, and contributing to long-term data architecture strategies.
Qualifications
- Strong data engineering skills, including experience with Data Engineering and Data Warehousing.
- Proficiency in Data Modeling and Extract Transform Load (ETL) processes.
- Applied experience in Data Analytics and working with analytical stakeholders.
- Advanced skills in SQL and at least one programming language commonly used in data engineering (e.g., Python, Scala, or Java).
- Hands-on experience with modern data platforms and tools (e.g., cloud data warehouses, distributed processing frameworks, orchestration tools).
- Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and security best practices.
- Ability to design scalable, maintainable data architectures and mentor other team members.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
