The Opportunity

Reporting to the Data Manager, you’ll play a key role in designing, building and improving the data platforms and infrastructure that support financial and operational insight across our business.

You’ll be involved in major technology and transformation projects, from developing new data pipelines and integrating data sources to improving existing solutions and solving complex technical challenges.

If you enjoy building things, solving problems and using modern cloud data technologies to make a tangible difference, this could be a great next step.

What You’ll Be Doing

As our Data Engineer, you’ll:

  • Design, build and operate ELT/ETL data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric
  • Design and develop data solutions using Medallion Architecture – Bronze, Silver and Gold
  • Develop, optimise and maintain complex SQL queries for reporting and analytics
  • Integrate data from multiple internal and external sources
  • Manage and optimise lakehouses, warehouses and associated storage
  • Implement data quality, testing and observability processes
  • Help ensure our data is accurate, reliable, compliant and trusted by the business
  • Support data lineage and well-documented transformation logic
  • Enable effective self-service analytics
  • Monitor performance and identify opportunities to improve our data infrastructure
  • Troubleshoot incidents, undertake root-cause analysis and deploy effective fixes
  • Contribute to CI/CD practices, documentation and engineering standards
  • Work closely with IT colleagues and stakeholders across the wider business
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve our technology, processes and ways of working

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced Data Engineer who combines strong technical capability with curiosity and a practical approach to problem-solving.

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • At least 5 years' experience across data engineering, data analytics and/or Business Intelligence
  • Strong Python and SQL skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Fabric and Power BI Service
  • Experience building and operating data pipelines within Azure, including ADF, Synapse and Fabric
  • Strong understanding of Spark
  • Experience working with complex datasets where structure, consistency and quality can vary
  • Experience delivering technology projects in a fast-paced organisation
  • Knowledge of version control, Azure DevOps and CI/CD best practices
  • Understanding of Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform
  • Knowledge of identity and secrets management and cloud cost optimisation
  • Understanding of information management principles and Master Data Management (MDM)
  • Experience developing solutions with ongoing supportability, scalability and maintainability in mind

About You

Technical expertise is important, but we’re also looking for someone who is curious, proactive and enjoys getting to the root of a problem.

You’ll be:

  • A strong analytical thinker and problem solver
  • Confident communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proactive and comfortable using your own initiative
  • Collaborative and able to work effectively across different teams
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Self-motivated with a logical and practical approach
