Director, Decision Intelligence & Product

Director, Decision Intelligence & Product
We're working with an emerging lower middle-market PE platform focused on services-oriented investing across specialized business services, industrial services, and healthcare services. They build around recurring-revenue, asset-light business models and thematic sourcing within fragmented industries. The leadership team has a strong operational, founder-partnership mindset with a proven track record of operational value creation and scalable buy-and-build opportunities.
They're in a critical growth phase and hiring a Director, Decision Intelligence & Product. This is a genuine build opportunity, and leadership is fully committed to getting it right.
The Role
You'll partner closely with the CTO, CFO, and deal leadership to design and scale the BI and product infrastructure that makes their investment thesis operationally real. Right now, they're a lean, entrepreneurial team with evolving infrastructure, which creates the kind of fluid, high-impact environment where a strong operator can shape how the firm thinks about data, decisions, and strategy.
On the decision intelligence side, you'll design and evolve the firm's BI architecture from data modeling through to the analytical layer. You'll build around their specific investment thesis, with deep fluency in the KPIs that matter for services-oriented, recurring-revenue, buy-and-build investing: portfolio company revenue quality, operational metrics that predict scalability, buy-and-build economics, and the specific performance drivers they're investing behind. You'll own DealCloud end-to-end as the system of record, partner with deal teams and portfolio ops to translate strategic questions into structured analytics, and set the standards for data quality and metric definitions so everyone speaks the same language.
On the product side, you'll own the roadmap for their internal platform: DealCloud as the data and workflow core, the web app experience on top, and the ecosystem of integrations (including MCP-based AI/agent connections) around it. You'll translate feedback from deal teams and leadership into a prioritized backlog and run this like an actual product function, not a reactive request queue. You'll work with engineering and data teams to scope and ship features, define what good looks like for platform usability and data trust, and act as the bridge between technical builders and finance professionals. You'll advise leadership on where AI tooling can genuinely improve decision speed versus add noise.
This isn't about juggling two jobs. It's about being the person who sees across data and product and builds the connective tissue that makes an operator-focused PE platform move faster and smarter.
What You Bring
5 to 10+ years across BI/analytics leadership and product management, with meaningful time spent in PE, investment banking, corporate finance, or a related buy-side environment. You understand PE/finance KPIs cold: deal economics, portfolio performance, fund-level reporting. You have direct experience with services-sector or operational PE (a real plus, but not required). You've administered or owned DealCloud (or comparable platforms like Affinity or Salesforce for PE) and understand the data model, configuration console, and how to run it as a platform. You have a proven track record owning a BI function end-to-end: data modeling, KPI design, dashboarding, governance. You've shipped product: written specs, prioritized backlogs, worked cross-functionally with engineering. You're fluent in SQL, strong in Power BI (data modeling, DAX, report/dashboard development, workspace administration), and familiar with modern data stack concepts. You understand modern AI/agent integration patterns (MCP or similar) well enough to separate signal from hype. You communicate equally well in technical architecture reviews and investment committee meetings.
Nice-to-Haves
Prior experience building an internal tool from scratch inside a PE/finance organization. Familiarity with low-code/no-code platforms (Retool, Bubble). Exposure to LLM-based tooling in finance. MBA or CFA.
Success Looks Like
Any deal partner or exec asks "why is this recurring revenue quality degrading?" or "which add-on bolt-ons are driving EBITDA lift?" and gets a data-backed answer within minutes. The internal platform becomes the default place deal teams and portfolio ops go to answer questions instead of pulling one-off reports. DealCloud, the web app, and new integrations feel like one coherent product, not a patchwork. The roadmap is driven by real investment and operational decision-making pain points and shipped like an actual product function.
Compensation
Base: $200K–$250K plus bonus and carry.
